Crawler V4

Crawler - Mobile Fortress - Now with multiplayer options (co-op and 'race')!



The biggest update so far for Crawler:
* Added two player multiplayer options. Game moduses: singleplayer, co-op or race.
* Added a multiboard that shows the levels of your Crawler's upgrades and colors an upgrade green when max research level of that upgrade is researched.
* Added water areas with 3 new type aquatic Dinosaurs.
* Added 3 new gunners (Spotter, Flamethrower and Cyborg).
* Blaster Upgrade gives a bigger damage bonus.
* Spiked Barricades has an other graphical effect.



New dialog options have been added.



Update that fixes tooltips, fixed collision problem with Crawler and dinos mostly and upgrades are now available at the Command Tower instead of the Support Bot (removing the annoying icon appearance and disappearance).



Small update that improves terrain.



The dinosaurs are back! Poachers from all over the world come to kill dinosaurs for trophies. This is the moment to test your just finished prototype toy: the Crawler. The Crawler is a mobile fortress with several garrisons and equiped with advanced equipment to survive the most deadly scenarios. Next to that it is designed to be compatible with most hard- and software devices, allowing it to be easily upgraded and improved.

This will be your Crawler's first field test. Your main objective is to collect trophies yourself (or with a fellow Crawler in co-op) before the Poacher competitors do (or before the other Crawler/player does in 'race').


Features:
- Play with a heavily modifyable tank. Buy gunners to add additional firepower (which you can see on the roof of your Crawler). Research to strengthen your Crawler in various ways. Find items to futher enhance your new toy.
- Choose from three gameplay modus (singleplayer, co-op and race) and several gameplay options to enchance your experience.
- Fight all kinds of different and unique dinosaurs. Including aquatic dinosaurs!
- Kill those nasty poachers once and for all.
- Being able to use a wide range of different abilities to play the way you want. Do you want fight close ranged or snipe enemies from a distance?


Not protected:
This map is not protected, you can modify, take things from it and hopefully learn from it. Do as you like.


Do not move items from one inventory slot to an other inventory slot, this will bug your gunners. Just drop and pick up items if you want to have an item in an other slot.

Hello [K40$]-Spectre. In my opinion, Crawler is a decent map. It was well polished, with very many custom models, a custom selection circle, and a cool attack system. I liked the intro cinematic, especially the tank landing on the helicopter pad. The gameplay at first impressed me. I liked the feeling of three units firing at the same dinosaur. I also liked the somewhat random placement of shops. It made it feel more realistic. I also liked how you could add to your attack by purchasing more soldiers and how the soldiers actually stood up on the top of the tank. This brought a realism issue to the game though. The flying enemies should attack the soldiers, not the mobile fortess. Why on earth would they attack a heavily armored tank when there are exposed soldiers on the top? Maybe you could add health to the soldiers. I also liked all the enemies you made, except the lightning attack of the Stegosaurus. I really think you should remove that. I also want more types of dinosaurs. Maybe you could also add young and baby dinosaurs. I liked the idea of competing against the Poachers, although I wasn't sure if I was supposed to kill their headquarters. Also, my soldiers continued firing at it when I was near it. I also got pretty bored of the map after forty or so dinosaurs. Perhaps you could decrease the maximum kill count?
All in all, you've made a decent map.

Only a few issues:

* Not sure if the poachers work properly, one time I killed exactly one, another they had a dozen poachers and four tanks waiting at the base.
* Sometimes the gunners float far above the crawler then go back down as it moves.
* The crawler spikes upgrade looks damn ugly, I suggest using Thorns Aura instead.
* I'm not sure the main gun damage research (with lumber) is very useful, since the shop version can be bought much faster.
* A side menu telling you the levels of the upgrades (spikes, bot speed...) would be nice.

Other than that, this has to be the best-quality dinosaur map I have ever played.

Only a few issues:

* Not sure if the poachers work properly, one time I killed exactly one, another they had a dozen poachers and four tanks waiting at the base.
, periodically Poachers are spawn and 'attack-move' a random dinosaur group. Could be that that one time when you killed one, the others were killed by dinosaurs or that that one guy was stuck or the others and so they got seperated. Also later in the game Poachers are spawn in bigger groups.

* Sometimes the gunners float far above the crawler then go back down as it moves.
, yes that is an annoying thing. It has to do with that heighted terrain and lowered terrain tools. I will try to fix it but tried before with no succes.

* The crawler spikes upgrade looks damn ugly, I suggest using Thorns Aura instead.

, well the main gun damage upgrade is damage dice bonus, while the one from the shop is just damage bonus. But still you are right now that I think about it. I will add a little bonus on top of the damage dice bonus.

, this is a really cool idea! I would love that too. Will take a look in it, should be do-able one way or the other.

* The huge camp in the SE is too easy, since the cliffs there allow for teleportation. Maybe add a few ranged dinos to keep it interesting.
* Do the dunkleos have phase shift? They keep popping in an out of sight.

, good ideas. Y the Dunkleos fishies have a custom phase shift, the idea is that they dissapear underwater, but maybe I should enhance the effect a bit.

First of all, this is a great map. The terrain looks nice, the simplicity is good for killing boredom.

Stuff:
  • The poachers are bugged. I've played the game twice now (with different poacher point settings), and after a while, some of the poacher units just stay at the base.
  • Increase the damage reduction per armor, I can't feel the effect of the HQ upgrade.
  • Add more inventory slots for more gunners. They're expensive and not that powerful anyway.
  • Fix the skill level up tooltips. They only go up to 3 levels.
  • Add more upgradeable abilities for the support bot. Doesn't have to be custom. A faerie fire skill would be really useful.
  • Change the repair aura to an active heal (Priest or Obsidian Statue, your choice). It makes much more sense that the support bot stops attacking while you're being repaired.
  • Add more levels to HQ upgrades, so we can build the Crawler like a juggernaut, an offensive tank or a speedy scout.
  • Make a command for setting the point limit. Sometimes I just want to play longer and kill more dinos.
  • After a game, it takes a long time for the warcraft scoreboard to disappear (the longest of any map I currently have). Maybe a cleanup?

The map itself is already fun, but it has little replay value. Just keep adding more things so every game will be a bit different from the last.

I will not increase the amount of gunner slots though, mainly because it is kindy heavy for the engine the way I show the gunners instead of having just items (like in Battle Tank etc.). Especially when playing multiplayer, than twice as much gunners are ingame (/twice as heavy).

, what do your mean exactly? The scorescreen when you quite or finish a map?

I've had that, for me exiting the scoreboard gives a black screen for a few seconds (as in long enough to notice it) before returning to the map menu.

I also agree you should be able to set the number of kills, I've yet to reach all upgrades and levels because the game ends before my deathtank reaches its full potential.
