Cavern of Chaos is a dungeon-crawler with many unique aspects that hopes to differentiate itself from others, while still staying true to the genre. The map is not done, but has enough content that it can be played.

• What is a dungeon crawler? •
A dungeon crawler is a map where heroes are placed within a "dungeon" and work together to go through it. Essentially you select a hero and venture through the map, cooperatively working together. At certain points, your team will be faced with a boss fight. It features RPG elements, but is typically not a save/load RPG.

Players who have played World of Warcraft or any kind of RPG will quickly understand this map.

• Features •

A robust attribute system that introduces some new gameplay elements but not being overly complicated. All spells/abilities are directly effected by this attribute system.
A cool new item system that dynamically generates items. All items have level (shown by their Charge) and they are assigned random attributes based on their item-class type.
4 item types: Off-Hand, Weapon, Talisman, Amulet. Talisman all have a special on-use ability.
6 completely different and unique classes that offer their own playstyles and roles. Each hero can learn up to 6 spells.
A skill system that allows for futher customization of your hero. You can choose to make your hero into an excellent tank or more of a damage dealer. Once you research enough skills you "unlock" new abilities.
Epic boss fights that strive to provide a balance between creative tactics and fast thinking.
A unique damage engine: All hero-spell damage is calculated based on attributes. Incoming damage can be blocked; the % to block and block value is based on the Skill attribute. All spell damage does variable damage, anywhere from 80-120% of the damage stated. All damage types can be critical hits for 2x the damage (based on your critical % chances that are determined by your attributes).
Waypoint system - After defeating the first 4 bosses, your game will essentially "save" giving a code for you to type in later so that you can play from that spot again, as long as all players also have gotten that far.
Damage Text - All damage dealt is displayed and colour coded.
Event Text - All boss events are displayed on-screen, as part of the interface. You'll never miss a crucial boss event again.
Raid Warning Text - A neat little command that can help players get there message across by displaying large text that stands out, and "slides" into the main interface.
Mini-events! - Littered throughout the dungeon there are mini-events that should provide a nice change in pace from straight killing creeps. Everything from dodge-them games to secret bosses that require luring into barrels of explosive to defeat.
Nice terrain
Hero icon display - To assist in healing, you can see the HP/MP of your allies at the left.

• Helpful Tips •
If it's your first time playing, with people you don't know, you likely won't get passed the second boss.
Please post any bug reports in this thread
You must have a balanced team to get anywhere. A Priest and Barbarian is pretty much required in any party setup.
Make sure your casters get some points in Strength as well as Intelligence. Otherwise they'll die later on. This goes likewise for a Barbarian who wants to tank -> GET SKILL! RESISTANCE IS WHAT MAKES A TANK.
If you die, and there are no priests alive and no Potion of Revivals left, then you lose.

I enjoyed it not really anything to complain about. Are you planning on expanding and using the base of this in another map?

This map ideas was originally planned for SC2, but SC2 got delayed time after time, so I decided to realize it for Warcraft 3.

In terms of expansion, I'm open to ideas. However, I'm sure that you didn't get that very far. It's quite a difficult map. On the drawing boards
- More bosses
- Class-specific talismans that have effects to do with your class (However, I need ideas for these)

We got up to the illusion dude, he is insanely hard. We saved and played about 20x before we beat him (only with 4 players) and we shouted in victory when the final holy nova killed him. He keeled over and died, and we all exchanged high fives. To our dismay, an invulnerable miniature version of himself appeared, and casted Arcane Destruction killing us all. BUG.

dude this map is very nice but if u dont have anyone that has already played it its quite hard to play like the 4th boss has a move that insta kills whats up with that? and theres no warning that it will do that much dammage. really gay since we got that far just to die like that. :sad:

Are you referring to the 4th boss as a Pit Lord? Yes, his Call of Fire is instant-death. If you keep him moving though, you'll always be out of range of it.

This Rpg is nice , but it lag to me. If you need help , you can call me i can make better skill system and also it can be if you use spell book as item system. You also need more bosses, spells, import models. I did not play long but i did not know, if there is no Set items and Unique you should add them. So if you need any help with trigger just call me.

The terrain is fine and the challenge is great ...
Spell, skill and attribute are well made.
Heros are fun to play.
Your traps are fun =)
The only "problem" is that we don't feel fighting in a cave.

The best dungeon-crawler map with toj.

Suggestion : You should add alternate passage or small secret cave.

The first time i played against the first boss we totally owned him... the second time we all die cause of his 2 guardians casted shockwaves at the same time .
The third time we die cause i played with noobs, but also because he used spell he have not use the first time. So... make him casting his spells faster ! (or not, i'm just frustrated .. it will be impossible after that..)
Next, a time the game bugged, because someone left before choosing his heros.
I will try it with my clan mate .. care, we may end it (we were near to end toj 2 times ... but seem that i'm a noob healer in the worst situation).

Theres one problem though. When someone quits or lags out before picking their hero, we cant enter the cave!
The first gate wont open

5/5. great map. terrain, teamwork, i really like the traps at the start, but it kind of disappeared on the later part of the game.

spells are great too.

i tried with a friend and with only a priest and barb its possible to kill till the fat guy with the fire one hit KO spell.

then i found three other friends and reached the illusionist, the arcane explosion thingy "shield" was kinda random. i have to say it relies on luck? isn't it possible to make it not "luck" based?

i have to say all the bosses are pretty cool though, however the one before the illusionist, the swarm guy in the water that duplicated himself on low hp? he was kinda...er easy for the second last boss.

Thx for SkeletalHammer's replay. You had the cool way to finish the Golem boss. But this replay is just an hour long and stopped at the Queen of Sea in the end.
We have the same problem with Queen of Sea's Piercing Shot. It seems a instant-death shot, but it's never casted on barbarian.

Intervene is the key skill, so queen dosen't shoot barbarians?

btw, the load system is bugged. you can load up your level and all points you have, but skill mastery architecture won't show up

Edit:I just found the way to push queen to the edge: the barbarian shares control and others control to barbarian push it (we share control for intervene, and found the bug accidentally)

Awsome map, me and two friends finished it, but the last boss was troublesome with his insta gibbing aoe ability, i'd suggest making the protective bubble more visible and bigger, or giving the players more time to run into it.

We managed to defeat him by pausing the game whenever he used arcane destruction and look for the bubble, and if we survived it we saved the game and could retry if we died.

Also when you save and load in another game, you lose stats, but not from the items, our items stats were higher than the ones we had when we saved, but we still lost stats somehow.

Lower the health of the iron golem boss, he's easy but boring because of his high health.

I would also suggest adding a rogue-like class, or a skill (agility) class.

One last thing, there is a bug with the sea queens tornadoes, if a barbarian push her to the edge, he can be pulled outside of the arena by the tornadoes.

P.S played about 11 Hours and for a beta map, that's pretty much. :grin:

the thing is, piercing shot onehitkos and never aims on barbs. two of the characters goes down and seemingly..she does nothing after summoning the nagas.(not sure whether this is a bug or not) so we just kill her off easily o.o.

before 1.11b we was able to kill all bosses till naga with 2 ppl dont tell me now with 3 or 4 we cant

I'd like to see the vid. where you did this originally. With 2 people you'd have to be extremely lucky on the second boss (so that he doesn't Garrote your healer) in order to win.

Regardless, the 1-4 bosses remain unchanged except for fixes, and if anything they were made easier..

Is that not how physical and magical damage defaultly behave in warcraft 3?..
Yes you are right, but the damage engine is still there. I fixed the tooltip so its more relevent.

me and my friends came to the Naga boss but she is impossible to beat, her piercing shots one-hits you. Anyone got any tactits on how to beat her? Thanks

EDIT : Btw A very nice map, me and my friends love playing it.

I don't know if it was just me.
After i killed 4 bosses, i can not save.

Did you defeat the Rock boss (Mountain Giant)?
Did you defeat the Pit Lord boss?

If so, you will be ported to the next zone. When you are ported, and walk through the portal your hero will automatically be saved. A code will be given, the screen will flash Waypoint Save, and your code will be in the Quests as well.

Really nice map, but when I played it just a few minutes ago I noticed a real big mistake that you've done with the big stone golem boss. If your unlucky like we were I as a healer was targeted instantly by his insanely long range attack and died so we wiped big time. Also when I got ressed my mate that had 2-3 "Potion of Revival" they all got used at the same time.

You should probably lower his range so that he doesnt reach to the lowest part of the map or make everyone invulnerable the first 3 sec so that the healer(s) can move away.

Apart from that all I can say so far is keep up the good work!

The Potion of Revival is a bug... Really strange, haven't seen that one come across yet. What hero-type was he?

The Golem having a really long range is intended; in fact, a priest targeted being hit first is intended as well. There are ways to get around this, and it can be dealt with.

i had the same problem like maartz i played the shaman and used 2 potions of revival!

but it is a very cool map! i love that you can see your party members on the left side

but could you maybe do difficulties ? so i can do everything with my friend? :D
i cant play in the internet!

it would be cool if you would add also an rogue or an paladin!

but keep up the good work! :)

Edit: And maybee Hardmodes! where you get better items from

Someone Take this Project!!

I've started playing this map 1 week ago and it is awesome, but after taking a look it seems to be abbandoned, can someone keep on with this map? it would be really nice to have updates with balances, more items, bosses and etc.

Just to let everyone know, I'm afraid yes, this map is abandoned.

I made this sometime in high school and now I'm third-year university, so I simply don't have the time to work on it anymore.

I hope one day to get back into game design, but until then thanks for all the positive feedback and bug reports.

And now valve realeased dota 2 reborn in their new engine, source 2, which lets you create custom games, and it is pretty sick, you can do whatever you want!

I would love to see this game ported to dota 2 reborn as a custom map, someone please make this happen.

In first , i am learning english ... and it is not good....

i am only registered in hiveworkshop to say to the creator of cavern of chaos must continue His job (cavern of chaos) in dota2 reborn. Your map are one of the best RPG\dungeon ideas and have high potential

PD: do more comments if you like the map and if you want its remake in dota2
