Cataclysm AoS v1.17

An AoS-Style map based on the World of Warcraft Universe.

Fight in yet another epic battle between the forces of Azeroth in a struggle for the worlds diminishing resources. Fight as the Horde, or the Alliance in a team-based and co-operative assault against the opposing team.





This is an early release of the map so there's much to be updated, however, it's fully playable in it's current state and makes for an interesting play online :)

I have played it with my friends and its good. but it is already very good. Here are the points i have to critisise though:
- The random events are sometimes too strong and really annoying. It simply not the purpose of an AoS that you stand in your base and fend off thousands of undeads
- The pathing has some flaws. I once managed to summon a wolf inside one of those lava pools and another time, a priest wandered onto the walls of the alliance defense
- There are a lot of Standard Spells, but that will probably change in the next versions
- The Phoenic is OP in the mid-game, because the heroes dont have enough power to destroy him as an egg and if they succeed, the mage immediately summons a new one
- The Hunter is boring to play with 2 passives, 1 stun, 1 summon and one seemingly useless ultimate (i used it only once. I died)
- The Tauren Gunner model is bugged, but that is not your fault. But it would be better to replace it for example with a Kodo beast.

But the athmosphere and the general gameplay is great, so 5/5 and vote for approval.

Would be cool if I could actually face those Polar Furbolgs, and the Dwarf Force.

Yea, I'm still not sure what to do about the "instance" style areas :p I tested those two out but it took the focus away from the main point of the game of killing the opposing teams base :p

I also think the game is a little slow-paced :) I'll have to speed it up a ltitle with stronger heroes and some neat death triggers :)

Damn I expected to see some epic scripts and shit ^^

Btw terrain is really great, I am terrainer myself but I just saw few new stuff that really impressed me.
But Placing pathing blockers like that will be real problem if you create BLINK like ability or use some summon like abilities that can summon units on the other side of pathing blockers ^^

May I suggest you to use "Sun_Flare" (UTM 3.0) model for epic fire (lava in your case) effects!

Also few special effect like doodads will increase terrain beauty for sure (My favorites: Faerie Fire[buff] and Tranquility [effect on unit])

Other than that really good map, I will play it tomorrow with friend and add more suggestions! :thumbs_up:

Cool but I was expecting strategy game, not dotA style... but it's a good map for dota fans I think... and add some new models, I was kinda disapointed when I saw old models... :)

I don't see what's so great about this map other than it's terrain and special events (but even these get very annoying; i.e. the pirate one). There are only like 5 heroes, and they are the same heroes on both sides, so no variety. The game gets boring after a bit, because all you do is take control of one checkpoint after another, and there's no real "strategy" in this whole thing. It's all back and forth hack and slash domination. There are also barely any items. Don't say I'm a DotA nerd, because I'm not, but at the moment, I would say DotA is much better than this map. This map has a long way to go before it is really any good. For now, just improve the hero aspects. It's a major downer on this map when there is no variety and everyone has the same heroes. Add much more items, and make them more complex with recipes, special effects/abilities, etc.

Rating: 2/5.

Ok I played this by myself in single player and found afew pathing errors :S
Once I could walk into one of those lava pools and another time I could run along the mountains all the way to the exit of that frozen instance in the bottem left corner o_O
I also sudjest putting in Item recipes if your not already doing that and I spent 30mins looking for the entrances to the instances and then found out that you cannot enter them :(
The terrain is very well made and I sudjest adding a bigger variety of items. Also I used whosyourdaddy :p and ran into the horde base and used my money to summon their royal guards from the upgrade centre thing -_-

72.826086956521739130434782608696% of your triggers leaked (67/92). One was disabled so it wasn't counted. Why am I saying this? The hell I know. I just thought I could say some random interesting fact. It will probably change as maps always change!

But 73% is a lot, you ought to clean up the stuff. It's mostly just location leaks, some group leaks too. So, who the heck checks a map submitted? Isn't it the outcome ingame that matters? Anyways.

Also, are the triggered spells MUI o_O? I'm sure I saw some begins casting an ability event somewhere.

Nice terrain, it's excellent. Excellent use of doodads on a playable map. Only things are the volcano (I think) craters, they look terrible! You've even got grass on one of them (somewhere, you'll see it). Perhaps add some fiery glow (search some tutorial, it's probably for unplayable though)? Something spicy. I found the fog annoying also. Some option to remove perhaps? Oh well, I won't be playing it, I never play maps :3 But still great!

Just my comments.

oh wow, the terrain is awsome, can someone tell me what tool i need to make cliffs like that? i know WEU could do that but it doesn't work anymore :/

the gameplay and heroes are a little plain, but i think you will work on that.

Simple WE can do that all you need to do is to edit MiscData.txt file!

I will only say this once:

What you should NOT do:

  • Talk about DotA (DotA is just another AoS, like this... you might as well talk about any other AoS on the net).
  • Talk about any other game than this (unless you can give a clear reference which still has to do with this map).
  • Spam/post idiotic things (extremely short messages with no content for example).

I've cleaned the thread and wouldn't like doing so again, as I will start handing out presents then ^^

Sorry about the comparison to DotA in my main post Apocalypse. I probably shouldn't have done that. My rating for this map still stands at 2/5, as the only really nice things I see in it are the amazing terrain and the nice special events. The rest is... meh. You need more heroes, and more items, and just things in general that make the map more unique.

Great terrain. The map, of course, is in beta, so I can't wait til the full release :) Right now it's empty, but I'm sure it will be great when it's finished. The pirate ship is kinda hard to kill, and the undead thing spawns lots of units. I like how the events drop items, but you can add more variance to those items. 4/5.

I think only Cataclysm thing is Tauren Paladin !

If you just look at terrain you can see lava, destroyed shit and so on!
And btw cataclysm can present many stuff not just end of the world ^^

Hmm I did check it in map editor, and yes there is some few bugs, but anyway a good start! Keep going! :)

Instead of thoose "instance" add a deathwing instead? and the team who kill this insane dragon gets some gold or some items? Otherwise you might could do some more items with recipes things? and do all classes ofc :)

Tested it online but... You should do something for the name. Everyone left or atleast started raging when they noticed that "fuu this isnt rpg omg where is my goblin". And even thought your terrain is exceptional, the gameplay was utterly boring. Must be because of the badly designed heroes.

Right yeah, of course I see the sense in that.
Every single good game, is balanced and stale - I totally see your point there - however, life goes on.

If people made the same old stale, balanced games. People would get bored.
I was merely saying it's great to see someone trying to break the mould, who cares if it starts off a bit imba?
I'm pretty sure Dota wasn't 100% balanced upon creation and I'm pretty sure some would argue it still has SOME balance issues after all these years.

The gameplay was, to be honest, utterly boring, nothing happened, attackmove... attackmove... autoattack... etc... and the creeps should be able to kill eachother, not spawn three waves before anything happens, to prevent mass waves of creeps. The items where lame, they didn't do much of a difference, you still got pwnd by the creeps:p
I couldn't see cooldown/mana cost on the staff item that had chain lightning on it. The pathing needs lots of improvements as some users allready stated. The undead wave ran away from me, and just stand still at the portal doing nothing. (not much of a undead invasion, eh?). Quite boring skills on the heroes, just regular wc3 skills. The hunter was an autoattacker, really boring hero >_>

But, there was good things as well :) The terrain was lovely, the overall core gameplay interesting, the events was fun, item drops from the events was cool. Upgradeable creeps is a nice addition to an AOS. Good tooltips. I'm sure lots of great improvements will reach this map, as it is still in Beta.

But really, fix pathing! Make something about the boring autoattack gameplay, make the items actually improve your hero anything, they do almost nothing now. Even the "ultimate" items sucked D:

I will give this map a 3/5 for now. But I have no doubts it will turn out great with bugfixes and updates. Keep up the good work!
