Very nice shading/highlights on the blade itself. As you stated, the background leaves room for interpretation, which is an advantage for this particular icon.

I chose this color to be abstract, may be interpreted as blood or sparks.
Also is a just a background, the focus in question is the saw.

The metal is gray ... I've never seen a emery that it wasn't completely gray.
