Apheraz Lucent: A bunch of sharp, straight lines that lack any form of instability about which you could refer to this as a lightning.

Well then, some feedback on this one instead. I would actually say it looks way too static (notice the pun) for being a magical/lightning bolt, it does not look "alive". Which lighting tend to look like (at least artistic-wise). Give it some more characteristics and some shapes, to make it both more interesting and realistic. Well, as realistic a magical lighting missile can look that is. This doesn't look like a bolt or a missile, more like a wave of cheese. Imagine a meteor, how it would look like, with a more defined "shape" at the front, followed by a trail of fire (lighting effect in your case)

Check at these examples here to get what I mean:
1st: More defined bolt
2nd: More "alive-looking"
3rd: More variation in the effect

I see. Well you are allowed to do so :) But try to give the shape some more variation though, it can still look arrow-like. But those straight lines make it look kind of boring. Also, some more color variation is great to make it look more interesting. Just add some yellowish hue to it and I am sure it will look even better !
