the background kind of ruins it.

it makes the 'Item' Icon into trying to become an ability icon, but i cant see how this could be an ability icon, so the background ruins it.

My suggestions:
1) If you remove the background, maybe add small glow -> item.
2) If you leave the background and draw some effects (like fire/heat streams coming from edge or "stripes of cut air" so it looks like the katana is in motion) -> ability.

DISBTN is not just a darker version, it has special "fading" border.
Use this photoshop template as base:

Wow, no more tooling Photoshop->TGA->BLP? Cool, thanks for the link. Also very useful when you have no photoshop on pc.

Dont use the Button Manager. It messes up the DISBTN.
