I'll quote myself "Yea well. I've lost this large version as well xD"

You see, when I resized it to 64x64 I edited it a lot, as usual, and saved it. Thus, the large image was lost as I do not often keep backups of icons. They are small work after all. However, I do keep the old version's Large image and the new version's Lineart on a psd file, but it won't do you much good as the layers are merged (reduces lag when drawing).

Uh... Hmm. I would go from 400 to 800, or stuff like 512x512 (so that it's dividable by 64). But whenever I do include a large version underneath I usually resize it to 300x300, don't let that fool you though, I work in a bit more than that. However, I do know people who have told me they work in 256x256 and that's perfectly fine.
I think size is kinda irrelevant but finding a good balance between a huge canvas and a small one is best as to not get lost into details when drawing big but still be able to use a large brush that just flows better. So don't go over a thousand or less than 200 is my advice.

Thanks for the advice. What brush are you using anyway??

Round and soft. Soft for painting mainly (btw, soft brush is almost as sharp as the round when small. Use flow, not opacity, as opacity can be controlled by the brush settings (aka using both). 30-40% flow should help you paint nicely for the soft and full hardness for the sharp). I used to use some other brushes before but I find it easier to just draw with these two now, it's a lot quicker and I can always get some textures for the final touches. I do not have a distinct matte style or something so I don't need to use other ones. Before, I, as many, thought that brushes do matter a lot and was told by some pros they do not... well, at least I got to understand this now.
