I think the 2nd upgrade looks more upgraded than this one. Painting the shield different colors doesn't necessarily make it more advanced. Try adding some iron to it or something. There's definitely more you can do with this.

Anyways, I think you should make the border (Whatever it's made of) to cross over the symbol on the shield, sorta looking like this

^If you could imagine that as the shield lol.
Then add some sort of glow or something around the outside, showing the power of the shield.
