Black Steel Breastplate + Pauldrons

Important: Zoomed preview is not updated! Please look below to see the current version!

It's been a long time since I've made a model, sorry folks. I was kind of worried that I might start off rusty. Luckily, when I decided to make one this afternoon, two hours later I was staring at this baby and thinking "I've never made anything like this before".

Attach these to the chest to use them.

Do not pay attention to the on-site 3D viewer for this particular model; it does not show up the same. For accurate results, open it in Magos' War3ModelEditor or import it in-game.

Update: Added Pauldrons Separately

The pauldrons are uploaded as the Portrait, for those who may want to use one or the other separately. If you plan on using them together, you can decrease the file size by merging the two models together (this will decrease the file size because of one less geoset information, one less material information, one less texture information, etc, even though it will still have the same mesh).

Feel free to edit these for your purposes, but give me credit for the original! In addition, I don't mind if you don't give credit in your map for just one model, however if you use more than one model from me, I would appreciate receiving credit!

Update 10/10/2013
--Fixed wrap on lower side of chainmail
--Fixed clipping of chainmail through shoulder.

Keywords:
steel, metal, armor, breast, plate, breastplate, tli, set, chain, mail, item, attachment, pauldron, shoulder

You should totally make a custom RPG Villager unit for all your armor.
So you can make gauntlets, legs, boots and all that other fancy stuff :)

This looks so cool, kinda like a black knight chest piece, or nearly samurai.

I would love to make gauntlets, legs, boots and such. Maybe one day the person who made the Villager 200 Animations model will edit it so that it can properly use attachments that don't work properly on the normal Villager.

Perhaps I can have a go if you make some boots/legs and maybe some gauntlets to test with?
I don't mind messing around with a villager to see if we can make it work :)

I don't want to make any until I know they can be used, sorry.

For testing purposes, you can simply copy the hand/foot of the peasant, scale it up to 1.1, change its texture to something different, and then test to see if it attaches properly throughout all animations. If you do make a villager capable of using them, that would be great.

If you want to continue talking about your plans for the villager model, PM me please so this thread doesn't get off-topic.

Can you put this as Yurneros armor? as a model unit

I'm not sure I understand. I think you're asking if I will make a unit for you using this armor.

I don't like to make unit models; I use vertexmodify, war3modeleditor, and notepad, to make my models, so I don't like to mess with things that have animations, other than making something rotate simply as an item.

If you ever do get the unit model you want, feel free to edit this armor to fit it.

That's a really clean wrap, and a beautiful result.

That means a lot coming from you, I'm happy that it turned out well. I was expecting to spend a lot more time and end up with something that didn't look anywhere near as good, but it seems like, even though my skills, experience, and tools, are pretty limited, when I finally find motivation and get the ball rolling, I somehow manage to quickly whip up something satisfying. I hope I feel just as motivated when I wake up in the morning tomorrow.

Wow, thanks. Not sure why my opinion is valued (mainly due to my inability/inexperience with modeling & UV-wrapping), but I appreciate the compliment nonetheless.

pretty nice model and very good idea. Though i think the lower part of the chainmail could need a little skinning. It looks a bit different from the upper part. Additionally, the right one on the pic could need a golden line @ the bottom of the tabard-like breast plate piece.
Other question: is it possible to attach the shoulder pads to the model so that they move with the hand (and maybe partly with ther chest), or are they just inanimately added to the chest?

Otherwise quite nice model.

You don't have to be good at something to be able to see when someone else did a good job at it, and you tend to spot good models because you still understand the process of making them even though you don't generally do it yourself, so I'm happy that you like it.

The bottom part is supposed to look different; the top part is for the chest, the lower part is for the abs. Edit: Oh, chainmail, not platemail. Yeah, I see what you're talking about, hopefully I'll get around to improving it.

The one on the right is being viewed from the back, that's why it's shaped differently.

Shoulder pieces are just attached to the chest, of course they turn when the chest turns, etc, but that's about it. I don't see why you would want them to move with the hand, then they would be flying all over the place. I'm probably just misunderstanding what you're asking, though.

There actually was made a model specifically adapted to work with attachments. I think it was used as part of a project though. I'm not sure if it was ever uploaded.

As for the armor, it's a creative blend of textures. Good job.

Ooops! My fault, srry :vw_sad: I was referring to the upper arm-shoulder part, i.e. the part where chest and shoulders merge. I didn`t mean the actual hands. :vw_sad: I was wondering if it moves together with this shoulder part of the model or not, but that got solved too now.

Think about your own body in real life for a moment. If your shoulders move any significant amount forward or backward, that would require rotating your torso. So even if something above your shoulders was attached to your chest, not the shoulders themselves, it would continue to turn with them.

Also, I misunderstood your message about the lower armor before. I looked at the message again today and then understood and fixed it, I hope you like it better now.
