Modeling Mini-Contest #5

A baby gryphon fit for a swift courier to any dwarf! He'll carry your things, peck your foes and perhaps give you a good feathery snuggle from time to time.

This is my first fully animated custom unit! Woop, been having alot of problems with exporting animations and such, and many of those still remain, however this mini contest got me the the chance to learn some new stuff, so I'm moving closer to releasing bigger and better units soon!

Really nice model and icon! My favourite part is its eyes, the color and the texture is really amazing. It really gives us the feeling that it is not a rideable fighter grypon but a younger one used as courier! But I'm afraid what Mister_Haudrauf says is true, but nothing that can't be fixed! :) Good luck in the contest!

The Inside of the Mouth isn't textured.

Yeah indeed, sorry about that! Was done to save a few polygons, I'll probably get around to fixing that in the future! My apologies.

This is truly fantastic. You really nailed that 'pet' feeling. The only flaw with the model (didn't test it in game) is as other mentioned the inside of it's mouth, it isn't visible in game but if you look at blizzard models they made inside of the mouth much because of the portrait. But great job, though.

I also forgot to mention the filesize. While the polygons are low as much as posible, the size of the texture is pretty huge. 300 kb is huge file size considering this is a little pet model and a companion to a hero. I'm sure you're gonna work on it. You could always use blp library to decrease the file size of the texture.

The texture is a normal 256 x 256, I only compressed by about 10 % to keep the quality up for the contest, but if you want to reduce the filesize it can easily be done.

Resources should always be uploaded at their maximum quality. There are easy to use tools to compress if the user wishes to do so.

The mesh & texture, as we may all assume at this point, utterly top-notch. You not only made a great model, you nailed the idea of 'familiar' in my opinion. Quite a cute little dude. : )

I could see some adjustments/additions to the animations, as well as the mouth-fixing. Other than that, I think my only issue is that it's really too good for Warcraft; I know you stick to the poly limits in the game, but it's just soooooo good. The texture quality really makes it pop in a way that fits (in my mind) more in HotS or WoW or something. Compared to the other units (esp. the Gryphon Rider), this guy stands out.

But it's a good problem to have, I guess. Just my $0.02

Beautiful mesh and animations, but some essential things are missing or are faulty.

- Please add more and proper attachment points. Look which one units contain and name them appropriately. Remove or name the 'Hook Ref' attachment point.

- Make the death animation a bit more fleshed out. You might want to add event objects to create effects or add particle emitters.

- Add proper geoset animations that make the model disappear correctly.

- Add one or more collision spheres to the model to have proper and assured clipping.

I set the model to 'awaiting update' until you make the suggested improvements and changes.
