The Awesomeball Cup - 10 years later (July 2021)

Map Description:

This is a soccer-like map. It's aimed to make you laugth and have fun with your friends and other people on Battle.net.
Different modes are available. You also can choose your own hotkeys for abilities ingame.

Features:
- This map supports AI.
- This map has a multiboard as well as a scoreboard at the end.
- Your Awesomeball Player has the ability to slow your enemies and to blink, both with a high cooldown.
- The Awesomeball will bounce on walls.
- Your team has to get a certain number of points to win the Awesomeball Cup 2011.
- Player 1 (red) can choose the amount of points required to win the game. He also can choose between 3 modes.
- Speed and Spell Protection runes will spawn every 45 seconds.
- You can choose your own hotkeys at start.

Extreme:
- Makes all Awesome Players way faster, even faster than the Awesomeball
Portals:
- Activates portals on every edge of the field which will teleport the Awesomeball to the opposite egde. Maximum fun!

Player red:
-kick [player color] ***Kicks an annoying player out of the game***
Every player:
-c ***Clears your screen of text messages***
- zoom [number between 1000 and 2500]
- name [new name]

How to play:
Just very simple. Your Awesomeball Player has to walk into the Awesome Ball to hit it. Once you've hit it, it will move on till any team gets a goal.

What's important to know?
- The shooting angle of the Awesomeball is equal to the facing angle of your Awesomeball Player.

- Made the yellow terrain a bit darker - now it isn't too bright anymore ;-)

Fun factor

Well, I imagine it'll be awesome with "full house" of players!
I had a little fun on my own even (lol)
A ball with an awesome face? What more can a man want? xD
4/5 in fun factor (mini-game). 5/5 if you'll add some modes etc :)
Errors/Wrongs/irritating

A kinda annoying thing I bring up first of all,
when a player leaves
  • Game - Display to (All players) for 30.00 seconds the text: ((Name of (Triggering player)) + has left the Awesomeball Cup 2011!)
30 seconds is kinda to much imo?
Shorten it, to make leavers cause less irritation ;P

Fun/Good

Well, what you did with the ball, bouncin etc, without even usin any abilities or anything to hit it, that kinda cool imo! It's a fun football mini-game that I would recommend to anyone that likes mini-games :)
You should add some (or alot? ^^) of game modes though :)
Some examples;
"Death ball" Killing units hit by the front of the ball? Last man standing wins!
"Super Speed" Simply speed up everything! Alot! :)
"Zombie Collecting" Spawn zombies here n there and make it be about who hits the most zombies with the ball!

And I can't think of more... but that's a start isn't it? :)

Please fix typo's; controll = control, you should change "Once it is hitten" to Once you've hit it, please change the map type to just mini game and please only have one category.

Highly recommended

Extreme fun play, no matter what type of gamer u are, i usually hate this type of game and don't even bother with sports. The idea of hitting the ball without even clicking on it is the best as mumbis pointed out, didn't see that yet in war3 yet, and the ball mod is just epic.

I can give a few suggestions if u don't mind, but all in all, they are more special effects and visual ideas:
-add some stadium models on the left and right or something similar, and a few small doodads on the top side like hotdog stands and stuff like that, i'm pretty sure there's a bunch on hive.
-make some voice play when a team scores, *crowd cheering* included some *crowd Boo'ing* in the back for that team, and visa versa for the other team.
-make a special effect on the scoring team at each player screen, showing "Goal!" in a bloody and huge graphix, and "Boooo!" for the loosing team...[the main idea isn't mine, i seen it in a map just can't seem to remember which one atm, and pretty sure it's a popular map]

1 more thing to say, i only tested this map twice but pretty sure there's a couple of bugs with the ball, it sometimes hit the wall far from the goal zone and yet it scores and sometimes ur facing a certain region and ball seems to pass u even after the effect. will test more with friends to see if that happens again.

The thing with the hitting:
The ball will be hitten with the angle of the hero's facing.
I also changed the turn speed of the hero in v1.03, so the hero will turn neraly instantly.
The v1.03 looks not like a stadium, but i prefer your idea and i'll change the whole terrain and add some doodads in the next version. Thanks for sharing your ideas with me!

Tested out the v.1.08!
Fun?

I'll rate the fun factor 6/5, cool terrain, models and abilities aswell as the extreme mode, which (I think) gives you insane speed, along with some runes that spawn up top to spice up things alot! :)
Wen't much faster than last time I tried it, and it now looks alot better!
Therefore, the fun factor is rated 6/5.
(6/5 is because, well, imo this shit is funny as hell! xD)

Well, no errors as far as I know,
Just got annoyed by one thing, as usuall ;)
The Hotkeys of the spells, their kinda... idiotic? xD
Put em to Q and W, which is ALOT easier to press than X and Y ^^
Then this map is totaly perfect!

Well, the map has gone from a simple field with normal terrain and no modes whatzoever to a golden glowing field with an extreme mode (Which I highly recommend!) to make the fun even more fun!
This update made your first version look like nothing!

Hello,

I didn't think this game could even get any better then it was at first release, but lol at the extreme mode, can't wait to play this with friends, only tested it solo now, and by the way, what is the purple terrain screen shoot, cause i played with a yellow terrain at 1.09 and the one u released yesterday, and it's a bit too bright but that could be me at the moment.
One last thing, u updated it too often, i spent more time downloading it then playing it. :p

Oh, i didn't know that someone likes my map that much^^
the purple floor was something about v1.05, i just wanted to make it look more interesting. Then i've changed it into yellow, fitting better to the ball ;)
I know it doen't look very good, and you may be right if you say it's too bright ;)
I'm thinking about changeing the full terrain into a real-looking stadium, but i don't know if that would fit to a "funny game".
What do you think, zheavy?

I gonna have my a'level soon, so I may stop upgrading the map next month, then i may go on with it ;)

I would really like to play this map with you and your friends, i've never tested it with more than 6 players (2 left at start...) and i think as 6 vs. 6 it would be massive fun ;)

All i can say is that v1.09 is the best version yet, but the buggy slide mode and the terrain that needs getting used to.

And well, it's triggered that the ball will be shooten with the number of the facing angle of your hero. So if you blink into the ball and your facing angle is 270 for example, then the ball will have the same facing.

The sport is way better in real life, but to what I like with the game, its unique! I had no hard time playing it if you know how to pass a ball, plus! you included your map with AI, which make it more fun to play solo with.

The Terrain looks wierd, I'm guessing your concept for this is ghostly figures playing physical soccer ball game with the smiley face on it, well I do define "Awesome" as yeah that's radical! anyways, the terrain is fine to me.

From slow hands to Fast fingers, I definitely played the game with so much effort, although I find no low managing or rude outcome within your work, I suggest making this section perfect!

Bug/s

Is it just me or the AI is messing me up? when I tried AI, how come my enemy is making me win the game while my stupid partner is making a run for it in defeat? I mean the enemy passes the ball in my court while my ally passes it to the opponent's court? is this a bug or a miscalculated triggering? anyhow, if you can see the bug, fix it right away.

Thanks for your review.

The terrain is just a fast made one because i focused on the triggering at this map :D
Well, the AI is very stupid, the map is made for playing with humans. The AI is just running after the ball. So the AI does only make sense in map testing.

I'm too lazy to trigger an AI that has intellect! If you know anyone who could make an AI for my map, please tell me :D

I'm preety good with photoshop :)
All you need is cool looking wrighting, maby with a yelow stripe behind it, just like in the minimap Icon.

The loading screen would say:

Awesome Ball Cup... ... ... Version (Witch version Is this?) and made by DEFACKTwalker

and if you do, tell me if you have photoshop, because your going to need new wrighting for each patch,
and so I know if you can work on the .PSD File I would give you.

I took a look at the inner workings of your map, and...
You have got to tell me how you made maximum unit movement speed bigger the 522
Cause needer of my 2 PCes would let me (Don't know why)

Also. as sugestions

The arrow casting circle should be 120 not 200, because if you have 200 area of effect,
It fools the player into thinking the arrow will actualy have a range wich is 200, when realy, it's only 120

And also, about the arrow, I have to tell you that the 1 sec cast time is throwing me of.
I try to cast the arrow right in front of the ball, but the arrow only apears only 1 second after the ball is gone.
(Changed both of these things in the editor, and tested, I think it had an emprovement)
Maby you wanted the cast time to be there, I don't know... But if you did, atleast change the cast time to 0 in extreme mode.

I find faulting to hard to use, because you can't select your oponent in this game.
Its very hard to select the oponent on first try, and you will almost always miss, and deselect your self.

One thing you can do to combat this, is to create a trigger that automaticly reselects your hero every 0.10 sec

As long as I'm posting...

I noteced that the two regions that triger the goal events, are to large.

In real football, the ball has to be fully passed the gate line in order to score.
Instead, what happens in your map, is that even if the ball is not headed for the gate,
You can still have the luck to score, because the ball is headed from the most bottom-left point of the map, to the most top-left point of the map, and actualy enters the reagions you set,
But dose not enter the gate, and shouldent score.

Maby you could add a player comand, that lets him choose how high the camera should be
because half of the time I'm trying to make complex manovers, so I would face the oponent side when I hit the ball, I click on my console, cause the camera is to close to the field to do complex manovers.

I think you can turn the resource board to a score board

turn the gold icon to the red icon, the lumber to Blue Icon, and Fins something to replace food with, a smiley (If you can't find one tell me and I'l make it for you)

So it can be Red score /Blue score /Goals neaded

And A Crazyer and very hard sugestion:

When the Awesome ball gose inside the half circle doodads you made,
Create a temporary destructabile (Or something) that looks exactly like the half cirlce, to overlap the original doodad, but make the temporary half circle have collor 255 000 000
And by doing so, turn the half circle RED when the ball is inside it. (Add a nice sound effect for when this happens)

It will create more suspance, make the game feel even more like a console game,
And it would look awesome.

This should not happen in the top-middle circle, and botom middle circle, because you have the runes there, and it would be a mess.

(Tell me if you don't get it)

Ball bounches pretty randomly, and it's no very funny to play imo.

how can you say this? It's not true.
the ball is a unit with maximum turn speed of 3.00. So if you're very close to the wall and the ball is between you and the wall, it will not be fully turned. Else, if you're more far away from the wall, the ball will bounce with the exactly calculated angle.

Maybe you think it's not fun because you never play games like that, so i wonder:
Why did you download this and rate it?

You also didn't give me any suggestions. I accpet your opinion on my map. My opinion on your review is:
It's senseless.

Yeah, maybe it's just me, but i still don't like this map. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's boring.
There's only 1 hero, and the modes doesn't bring enough variability to the game.

Also, the stacked doodads causes some lag, and there's some problems. Like you can easily
go in front of the goal and block the ball.

lol you can use physics to calculate the way the ball will move! based on its mass and speed... :p
That would be awesome.
for example if the ball hits the wall straight with no angle. you can calculate its speed like this


m1*U1 + 0 = m1*U2 + m2*V2

m is the mass of an object
U is the speed of the ball
V is the speed of the wall
:/ u should add a small amount or else the speed will be the same as before (e.g 10-2 or 0.01...i dunno)
forget the Zeros


If it has an Angle then u can do the same only you can make the ball turn its previous angle's (e.g 10o) ...GAH dunno the word...
Here's the equation " 180= x + y "
x is your previous angle.
y will be the variable that you must find.
