Autumn Forest - Gnoll map

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
Autumn Forest - Gnoll map (v1.0)
Created by pkyrkos7

Description:
This is a 1v1 altered melee map. In this map the Orc race is replaced by a new fully custom Gnoll Race.

Gameplay Changes:
This map apart from the Gnoll race has some changes as well.
- Trees have much more hitpoints which mean you can harvest them for longer time.
- Gold mines have also increased gold.
- The max level for heroes.
- Food limit is increased to 200.
- Max level heroes don't drain XP.

Notes:

- This is fully open and anyone can edit it. If you do use it as a base to your own map make sure you give credit to me as well all the modelers that I used the models from.

- The map was created 6 years ago when I was quite young and I had no much experience. So, I decided to fix the map a bit and upload it after all that time!

- The map is probably unbalanced since I didn't tested it in multiplayer, so every suggestion is more than welcome and I will try to apply any changes as soon as I can.

- If you see any bugs let me know and I will try to fix them as well.

- The map contains some naming issues like missing the yellow letters in the spells and units ( I was lazy to fix them :p) but if you think it's a big issue I could fix it.

- An important issue is that the Orc (new Gnoll) race has no AI. I may add it in a new version if requested.

Future Plans:
When I started creating this map I was very young and I had plenty of free time and had more ideas and such.
- One of my big plans was to use this custom Race to create a new Custom Campaign but I only created the first map. If you do like the map, I will try to find some time and probably create a small Campaign.

- Another thing is to create a mechanism that it doesn't replaces the vanilla Orc race.

- Also, if you like the map and is requested, I could create more maps using the Gnoll race.

Looking good!
Personally, I would add some more. Like an overview in the editor, a few in-game screenies, as well as a few more terrain screenshots as the ones you already have. This is just personal opinion though, and not required for approval; It can be approved as it is now too. :)

Well perhaps in the future I will add some more along with a map update. At the moment I think it's most important the balancing issues because the new Gnoll Race is probably unbalanced :p

well... it makes no sense for the lumberjard to cost lumber, in any race does this happen...
The hero altar requiring lumberjard... that also is not a thing in any melee race.
Aside from that, and the few things you mentioned, I too think you need more screenshots.
The gameplay is a bit slow because of I think a bit too high lumber costs.
Most units have a very small description and are just copied from normal gnoll units.
By the way I see no improved upgrades in the lumberjard

Well since it's a custom race it's not meant to be like the other melee races of the vanilla game. The lumberyard costing lumber you may have a point that it would make sense(from gameplay perspective) to cost only gold, but from "realism" perspective all the buildings require wood so that was my original though.
About the hero altar have as requirement the lumberyard I don't think it's bad because the gnoll race it's better(I think) from the rest of the vanilla races.

About the screenshots I will try to add some more although I am not sure what to add :p

As for the slow gameplay, the Gnoll race has a slow start indeed but you can get the upgrades at the lumberyard and gather more lumber. Also in this specific map you can purchase the goblin robot which cuts lumber.

Anyway, thanks for all your suggestions ;)

try adding spells in action screenshots. Also the tool tip of the lumberjard is misleading, it contains no upgrade to weapons and armor what so ever.
The bleeding spell has no tool tip, and also no effect. Some names are incorrect as you stated.

I will try to fix the ones you mentioned as well add more screenshots. I wasn't aware that the tooltip of lumberyard was off so i will fix that. The bleeding do have an actual damage effect though despite of the missing tooltip.

Hmm... I don't think so. But maybe you should remove the gnoll tech hero? it doesn't make much sense for primitive gnolls too have such tech. Just me though.
Yes I believe you have a point. However I couldn't find any more similar gnoll 3D models so I ended up using the tech gnoll as well. So I believe he could be an exception :p Also he doesn't do any high tech stuff and the building(lab) only creates animal-like robots which somewhat makes sense.

Don't allow yourself to be bounded by what custom resources exist. Come up with your vision of the coolest, most sensible Gnoll race you can, and then build that. Models are just the wrapper, the packaging.

Well although I agree with you about the custom resources, I have modded several games and I have to say despite the fact that custom resources are just a visual thing, they make something look much more unique to the player's eye.
In any case, I personally like the exception "smart" gnoll hero.

Fair enough; if you honestly like it, then that fits under "make the race you want to make, not the race the models 'let' you make".

I should also caveat my statement by saying that I am a bad example; I get stuck on getting cool models all the time for my Troll race. Or use the model (& it's animations) to help define the design for it. But I'm a bad example. What I described is the ideal.

Haha :p
But honestly there are some very nice maps in the website, that use the vanilla models and personally I believe if the used some custom models they would look even more amazing. Personally after playing and creating maps for WC3 I remember almost every model!

Yes, me too, even though it bothers me a bit I still find it funny (almost comical).
