Arthas.blp

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
This is my first skin. I tried to make Aragorn a little bit wilder than most of the skins on THW, because this skin was made for an Helm's Deep map, where Aragorn ain't so polished in his shiny king's armour at all. It fits for him being Strider as well, since the belt buckle bears the symbol of the Dunedain. Credits to DEMIGOD, who gave me good feedback, and to Hueter, who gave me an idea of how to do scale/ringmail armour.

Update! I've done nearly a complete rework to the skin, I hope it looks better now. Though Symbol and Hair still need some work on them. I also give credit to Mr.Goblin and Archian, because their tutorials really helpend me.

Update! Tried to fix breast, however the wrap always crooks it. -.-

Update! I'm satisfied with breast now. Besides, he has fingers! Also changed hair (The skin is now 95% freehand!)

Another Update! As you can see, I reworked shoulder pads and the leather harness (added some details, structure at the leg-part of the armor, and such - Thanks to Ike_Ike for his tutorial). Belt needs some fixing though I guess.

However, the skin is a tad blurred and its hard to work out a lot of the detail in-game :/ I'd recommend sharpening it up a bit and adding some extra detail to the leather armour :) Right now, it just looks a bit like his armours melting xD

Dont get me wrong though, its an excellent start! :D Especially as its your first skin :) It just needs a few updates ;) I'll leave it as pending for now and give you a chance to update it before I rate it :)

Dentothor: No Changes made. Rejected until updated.

I think he needs overall details, if you take a look at his clothes you will see, that it's hardly to say, from which material his clothes are made! They're are a little to blury, things like this you have to get more detailed, also the dunedain symbol needs more work, so does the hair!
Would be great to get such a Aragorn skin, so keep on working!

So, would you recommend a way to make the pants and the sleeves more clothlike? It's mostly handdrawn, because I've got no real idea of how to use the right filters for the right situations ;)

You shouldn't use filters, even if you are able to ;-P or you won't get an approved skin here!
To your question: check this tutorial by Mr.Goblin: http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/2d-art-tutorials-281/mr-goblins-tutorial-110127/

This is very useful, even if your special clothes wishes are not in it, just read it, it will give you an understanding how to get different clothes and structures look good!
What program do you use?

Definetly change the sword if you can... Aragorn didn't have Frostmourne, if I remember my Lord of the Rings correctly...

Other than that, looks pretty good to me:grin:

Well, there sure are many skins better than mine, but that's not the point of me doing this, is it? I want to become a skinner - I needed an Aragorn-Skin ... So I decided to start with that.

there isn't much what "we" can do, other than provide feedback (the good guys) what you need to do is to practice, practice, and grow in skill.

You should pay a visit to our tutorial section, to see how all the others do the pictures, step by step.

My favorite is http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/2d-art-tutorials-281/mr-goblins-tutorial-110127/

The hair seems off to me. Also, that isn't the symbol of the Dunedain on his belt. The White Tree is Gondor's symbol, and the stars were only added to the Gondorian flag because Arwen sowed it that way. So really, this is more of a Battle of the Pelennor Fields skin.

Sorry, I'm just Tolkien nitpicky like that.

Well, I was just doing that symbol because I got no other ideas. If you could tell me more about Dunedain-symbols I might change it.

I was working on the hair anyways, new V might be uploaded soon.

Sorry, I wish I could help but there haven't really been many (if any) symbols made to represent the Dunedain. In the Third Age these were a people that were very secretive. Perhaps you could find an Arnor standard? Or you could use the Eriador one found here:

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=253976

Scroll down a little. However, I don't think that would go well with the skin. Perhaps you could think of something else to put there?

Horribly blurry. Low opacity and soft edged brushes really suck pretty hard. Also, there's only the vaguest sense of lighting on the green parts, and none at all on the green. I have no idea what sort of texture you're going for here, cause the whole thing looks like fairy floss :/

You need to have more defined textures
Less of that streaky blurry mess.
Maybe some rimlighting on the armour, to bring out some definition. Hang on, I'll try and do a paintover.

EDIT: 'kay, done ... something? Not quite what I had in mind, but meh. Basically, instead of doing loads of random lines, put a flat colour in, work out where the light'll hit and add lighting and shading accordingly.

WoW, thanks for the tutorial! +rep

I'll try to redo it, however it should remain a bit blurry, since I got the feeling that being blurry makes it a bit more rough, more warrior- and less knight-type, if you know what I mean.

Sorry that there wasn't an update in such a long time, but my first attempt at reworking the breastplate was stopped by a sudden pc-freezing, which caused the loss of my work and fed me up a little bit. Anyways, here's the latest attempt.
