While I'm still not convinced boats are a fun concept in wc3, if you really want to use them, then this map is agood example. As I would have expected after reading which maps you mentioned as inspirations
Other comments:
1. In the real world, snow and corals are like polar opposites in terms of what climate they require. But in a fantasy world, well whatever. But it still seems weird to me.
2. Interesting layout for a 2v2 map.
3. Early game creeping will be slow due to lack of creeps near bases. Could also be an upside.
4. Nightelves are totally missing any AoW-creeping opportunities.
5. Creeps and items seem balanced. Overall a nice mix of different creeps.
6. I dont see any reason why boats should not be able to go near the tavern
7. There are some empty areas which are larger than I would have expected, for no apparent reason? (South/west of the highground camps, and behind the main island expansion in the north/east).
Overall, nothing that absolutely requires change, but 4 would be nice to have, as otherwise 25% of all players will immediately dislike the map.
