So, I've started a new full-map terraining project, and this time around the
inspiration came from a funny little game called "Ori and the Blind Forest."

Anyone whose played the game will know that I've got my work cut out for
me, though I can promise you: This terrain will never be an exact copy or
even close to it. But I will steal a lot of design elements from it.

Such as, you might notice, I've tried my hand at terraining the Spirit Tree,
a Powerup Tree and a Spirit Well thus far, I may even try my hand at some
of the other iconic locations in the game.

These are all rough and early WIPs, but I wanted to get this thread started,
I'll share more WIPs as progress comes along, and as with my former project,
I will release the full map when it is completed so you can see it all in grand
360 degrees ;)

Without further ado,

I think you should use it to create a cinematic for the contest. Use some good music, maybe add some sort of vague artsy story by adding some whisps flying around or something.

I think you should use it to create a cinematic for the contest.

I don't have any skills in making cinematics at all, so no, that's not going to happen.
Besides, this is a project meant to be enjoyed, not rushed to reach some sort of deadline
or other.

And thanks, Purge, I like that you like it already ;)

I wonder if you intend to make it playable.

I won't, but as stated, I will post the map when it's finished.
So if anyone wants to use it or make it playable then, they'll
be at complete liberty to do so.

Do you intend to do non-forest parts aswell?

Certainly, I'm currently working with a snowy location and there
will be a "peaks" location and likely a "volcano location" too.
So don't worry, there'll be some diversity :)

Curious, where are those golden tipped shrub models from?

They're from the Sc2 Conversion Pack.

Give us some screens from isometric angles!

I'm a Scenic Terrainer, born with the quirk to be incapable of not snapping
my terrains from their best possible angle. I can give you a few panoramas,
though.

So, here's a small update, some early WIPs of the Forlorn Ruins, and some panorama
shots of the old parts, only for fladder :)

And a bird-view of what I've got so far.

Most of them are from Talavaj's Stone and Sword pack, specifically the "Shire" edition.
Some of the dead trees are from the Sc2 Conversion Pack, and some of them are from
the "Top Down Fantasy" pack over at XGM.

Wow! perfect combination.
Too bad, recent updates of Top down Fantasy is too big. I don't have anymore top down fantasy pack. BTW, thanks :)

are you going to release it into the map section? this, in my opinion, if it's going into the public, probably will be the next directors cut map. i don't really care if the filesize is big, it's just pure beauty.

Thanks, guys.

And, also, don't get over excited just yet, first I'm going to have to finish it, which is by
no means guaranteed. Obviously, interest is key to keep me motivated to continue, but
whether or not it's going to be submitted to the maps section is an uncertain thing.

I have no intentions of making it into a playable map, and I wouldn't even bother to
affix it with pathing blockers, I think it won't be filling out the requirements for map
submissions. But we'll see, nothing is certain yet. It will, however, be downloadable
from this thread, should it ever be finished.

Edit: It's not much, but here is a tiny update, the Misty Woods.

Keiji, this project of yours is taking an awesome direction. The eerie feel the original game has was really nailed in your last post. I hope you manage to finish it so you can share with the community :)

BTW, the lack of pathing blockers and "playability" of the terrain doesn't make it useless, as people could still use it for cinematics or something.

So, I'm back on this project. Maybe I can manage to finish it this summer ;)

Pretty well done. Vanilla rock spires could be less inclined honestly.
On a side note, you could wrap those up with the same texture as the Redstone spires from SC2 pack using MLDVIS's unwrap function.
That or you could use the some wow rips models from Frostfire using the mentioned above texture.

Well, it is created using the basic Wc3 World Editor, but it is heavy on imports.
Among those imports are some Sc2 converted to Wc3 doodads, so you could
say there is some Sc2 in this :p

Also, thank you so much for all the supportive words guys :)
