Importing the model Advanced White Helm

This model is approved and works properly.

Info
This is an automatically generated tutorial. It will guide you through the process of importing the model Advanced White Helm. Please note that all the screenshots in this tutorial were made using a Macintosh, however it should be no problem to interpret what is equivalent on a Microsoft Windows or Linux machine.

Extract and Access
I am assuming that you already have downloaded the WhiteHelmTier3.zip and know where it is located on your local hard drive. The file is compressed as a zip archive. This will make it faster to download and decrease the bandwidth on the server. However, you will need an application to unpack the archive. You can unpack the archive with software like WinZip and Total Commander. Applications to unpack archives on a Mac and Linux are standard. You will need no other applications in order to unpack the archives.

When you have extracted the archive, it should look like this:
  White_Helm_Tier3.mdx
  readme.txt
  White_Helm_Tier3_Portrait.mdx
  readme.html
White_Helm_Tier3

Open World Editor and click Module -> Import Manager:

This is the Import Manager. From here you can add and remove custom files from your map file:

Importing White_Helm_Tier3.mdx
Now Click the "Import File" Button:

Next select 'White_Helm_Tier3.mdx' in the folder which you extracted from the zip archive:
       White_Helm_Tier3.mdx
       readme.txt
       White_Helm_Tier3_Portrait.mdx
       readme.html
White_Helm_Tier3

The file has been properly added to the map archive:
White_Helm_Tier3.mdx Model ... war3mapimported\White_Helm_Tier3.mdx
Done, you have imported the file White_Helm_Tier3.mdx.

Importing White_Helm_Tier3_Portrait.mdx
Now Click the "Import File" Button:

Next select 'White_Helm_Tier3_Portrait.mdx' in the folder which you extracted from the zip archive:
       White_Helm_Tier3.mdx
       readme.txt
       White_Helm_Tier3_Portrait.mdx
       readme.html
White_Helm_Tier3

The file has been properly added to the map archive:
White_Helm_Tier3.mdx Model ... war3mapimported\White_Helm_Tier3.mdx
White_Helm_Tier3_Portr... Model ... war3mapimported\White_Helm_Tier3_Portrait.mdx
Done, you have imported the file White_Helm_Tier3_Portrait.mdx.

Bind model to object
So now you have imported the model and its skins. Now you can add the model to a unit or an object. Open up your Object Editor:

Select a unit/object you would like to bind to the model and double click this field:

This will open up a menu for you to select a different model you wish to bind to the unit:
White_Helm_Tier3.mdx

Now click the "Import:" field and select White_Helm_Tier3.mdx:
White_Helm_Tier3.mdx

Bind model portrait to object
A portrait is the little camera view in front of an object's face. You can see the object's mouth moving when the object talks. When working with destructibles, you can set their portrait file. But with units, the portrait file just needs to have the model files name, ending with a '_portrait':

Select a unit/object from before and double click this field:

This will open up a menu for you to select a different portrait you wish to bind to the unit:
White_Helm_Tier3_Portrait.mdx

Now click the "Import:" field and select White_Helm_Tier3_Portrait.mdx:
White_Helm_Tier3_Portrait.mdx

You're done
You have now imported your model. Don't be afraid when you place the object and it appears to be a purple cube. Just close the map and open it again and it will look fine in the World Editor.

If you did exactly as this guide told you and it did not work properly. Please make a thread in the Modeling & Animation Forum containing the following:
  • Link to the model and the tutorial
  • Precise description of what does not work
  • The map you tried to import it to (with the model imported)
And we will do what we can to help you.
