Classic Heroes Arena 1.00

This map is unprotected and can be edited by whoever wishes to do.
This is based of Guild Wars and is made for people who likes balancement in a game

Map Description

Arena Features
[highlight]Capture the Flag[/code]: This one is a must have classic, some obstacles to
course around, the map isn't so big so it's easy to catch up enemy flag runner. There is an
anti-cloak/blink/divine shield/mass teleport to make sure it's not too easy and abused.
[highlight]Capture Points[/code]: 4 Points to capture and difficult to hold. Small, quick,
deadly describes this arena pretty well. Team play is vital in this arena as you fight with
the other team to have the only flag that's needed to cap a point.
[highlight]Kill the King[/code]: Make your way through the enemy defenses, capture
the shrines to help your team, play as a team rather than individually and crush your
opponents with all the arsenal you have at your disposal.

against the other. It is the one with some obstacles and no place to flee,

Well after that triggers and poor terrain I was thinking omg another 1/5 map that will be rejected! This is first map this month (Thrust me I tested many) that was interesting to me! I played alone 20 min cuz there is no Ai (One more thing to add above) just to check it :D
Ability gain system looks so great!
I think that this map can become really awesome, but you need to work on it a little more!
1st - of all terrain! Add trees, more doodads, make river somewere etc etc
2nd - Items, Allow hero to carry only 1 item per item type (ability items)
3th - Loading Screen
4th - Add sound effects
5th - Add special effects (from floating text to powerful triggered explosions etc etc)
6th - Clean memory leaks
7th - Fix triggers (For example don't use: Do Nothing)
There is 2 many ideas right now but these are main problems!


I think that map isn't finished jet, use Map Development forum for that! You can make thread there upload your map so people can tell you what they think just like here! Also for any help with triggers or how to clean memory leaks post triggers and create threads here Triggers & Scripts! Btw if you need any help with WE we have World Editor Help Zone here on THW! And at the end if you need any resource from icons to loading screens check this out Requests!

2/5 - I can't reject this map but still it isn't good for approval

This map has been worked on for several months, I learned a lot just by working on it. Though, I'm not a good triggerer when it comes to leak, I don't really understand how something can leak.

The reason there is not a lot of doodads in the Kill the King arena is simply
because I recreated a already existing map from Guild Wars and there is almost
nothing on the map simlpy because it doesn't need it. It's like saying, woah
that football field is missing some trees here and there. But I agree that it
lacks some doodad, I was expecting such a comment.

I don't see why I should use the sound editor, for myself I mostly play with
no sound, having sound editor wouldn't that just increase the loading time?

At first, the map was called Rocka Rolla Arena and I was using my fav's band
album cover for the loading screen and then I had to switch the name for no
one to join my games because the game name leads nowhere.

Why would having Bash level 1 and 2 make your hero so powerful when someone
can bring drunken haze to counter you? Blink isn't that much powerful when it
is not level 3.

the heroes start at level 5 because I want ppl to make a build, starting at
level 1 gives you only 1 skill + items and level 5 gives you 2-3 skills + items.

I tried AI, I'm not good at it, I don't know how to do it and it failed so much

As I said earlier, terrain was intended to be that way.

in order to see if items are too powerful, I'd need to see some games. I played
some capture the points and nobody seemed to bother taking bashes and blinks
because they had another build on their mind.

I could try to put some sound effects when the shrines and flags are captured

I don't think floating text is needed, at all nor special effect

Yes memory leak is something I have to check for, if only I knew how ;)

Agreed, there's not much reason to clutter an arena map with needless details. This is why, for example, Blood Gulch is such a popular map in Halo (despite arguably being the "simplest" map), or why Guild Wars has such "simple" terrain. A lot of amateur designers seem to forget this, which is an unfortunate aspect of many of the reviewers I've seen on this site.

Simple, functional terrain is good in my book... but *glitchy* terrain isn't, such as that circle of power disappearing into the ground.

Yes memory leak is something I have to check for, if only I knew how ;)

Definitely! Getting rid of leaks is a must! To learn how to do so, just search the tutorials of this site; it's pretty simple (in most cases). Just copy/paste the suggested custom script lines where relevant.

Map is fantastic, i will play it online with others. Just for people that say bad terrain, add river, add some stupid doodads, i say not every map has to have rivers and doodads to be good map.

Yes it is, map is good but that comment of yours can't help him much! You rated his map 4/5 Can I ask why? Don't think that I am bothering person, but post comment that will help him to improve map, what map need to get 5/5 from ya, you know what I want to say, I for example don't like how he created map description, grrrr 2 much hidden tags (use it only for images, credit list and stuff that take much space, sometimes just simple name and few basic stuff look better that 10 pages of text!)

-Terrain is sad. Almost no doodads, no environment, no eye-bush (It's not attractive.) Terrain is the must for gameplay too!

Check out the CTF Arena, is it doodad'd enough? I admit I could do that for the
Control Points arena, I could add some doodad, but the arena is already free in
obstacles and I really like it that way. Check the WoW Arena for exemple are they
full of doodads. No, they are simple as this, square with some column to "hide"
and maybe a bridge. I have some doodad in the ctf, check it out.

The reason why the Kill the King arena doesn't have much is simply described in
the description. I remade an arena from another game and it doesn't have much
doodad in it also.

Thanks for telling me about the doodad, I'll try to still work on that. Right now
the map is playable and working, that was my primary goal. I'll work on the
terrain from now on.

I see what you mean about the hidden, but I hate the box thing. ;) I'll try
to change the description to make it look better also.

Leaks are memory which are stored but its not used anymore. It may cause lag if not removed after its use. For example. If you use the trigger
  • Events
    • Unit - A unit Dies
  • Conditions
  • Actions
    • Hero - Instantly revive Hero 002 <gen> at (Center of (Playable map area)), Show revival graphics
-Invisible unit is a term for points (to make you understand better).
You will create an invisible unit at the center of the map. So if this trigger is used alot of times then the map will get flooded with the invisible units and its hard to walk around. But if you store the invisible unit in a variable and then remove it after it is used then there wouldn't be any invisible units in the map. So, without the invisible units you are able to walk around the map freely without any disturbance. To remove the invisible unit you could use this
  • Actions
  • Custom script: call RemoveLocation (udg_Your invisible unit Variable)
so if you use it in the trigger just now it would look like this.
  • Untitled Trigger 001
    • Events
      • Unit - A unit Dies
    • Conditions
    • Actions
      • Set TempPoint = (Center of (Playable map area))
      • Hero - Instantly revive Hero 002 <gen> at TempPoint, Show revival graphics

Note: If you made a spell and used dummy units, you will have to remove them after you use them because you dont want the units to be there and look out of place. Its the same with points.

Yes indeed, this map's comments are hilarious. I understand better the leaks now. This map isn't using too much dummies anyway. Thanks though for the explanations. It'd have helped me a lot if I was new to this.


I played this map with friends on a Lan, for the most part they liked it, the hero customization is brilliant.
It mostly ended up with summons everywhere since they don't know the original game too much.

We ended up having a lot of fun in CTF arena and Kill the King. But this game takes all his sense when the 10 players know the heroes.

I'm proud of this map, I'm sure it is very good for all arena lovers out there.
