Mage Siege v1.37
Created by PoZoR

Map Info:

Type: Team Survival
Number of Players: 6
Difficulty: Can be set
Playing Time: Increases as you improve

Features:

Unique spell slot system with interchangeable spells.
96 Custom spells for a large number of builds.
Mixing system.
Unique bosses and minibosses.
Environmental traps and elevators to utilize.

Objective:

Periodically, large numbers of monsters will spawn around the edges of the map. Your objective is to work with the other players, survive all the waves of monsters and kill all three major bosses. To do so, you must utilize the precious gaps between the waves to learn spells and gather items.

Starting Tips:

You and all the other players in the game spawn together in the middle. You run around the map while the waves aren't coming. You pick up spells, which spawn around the map. There are 6 "colours" of spells which represent the spell slot on your character that it occupies. For example if you pick up a gold spell, it replaces whichever spell is in your gold spell slot. This means at any one time your hero will have up to 6 spells, which can be continuously changed at your choice depending on what you find and what works together. Generally, spells of the same element will work well together and bestow synergizing effects on one another, but there are several hybrid builds that can be achieved, such as those of a tank, dps, summoner, runner, etc.

Gameplay:

You work together with your team, try to make mage builds that complement one another, and beat the shit out of the monsters. killing waves usually involves a lot of kiting, character repositioning, timing, and efficient allocation of the resources the map gives to your team. A single player hogging all the spells regardless of who it benefits the most will surely lead to your team getting owned. Some waves have special abilities, and to defeat them effectively may require usage of traps, elevators, separating the invading force, or using choke points.

Bosses:

There are two types of bosses. The three major bosses which are compulsory to defeat for winning the game, and the five side bosses which are not compulsory but will benefit your team if you slay them. The bosses all have different techniques and require your team to work together in different ways to defeat them. For example, blind coordination is required for the Avatar of Darkness, while separation and kiting is required for the Twin Emperors. Some bosses may require your team to be patient and fight cautiously, and others need you to attack quickly and aggressively.

Things that Help:

Of course, you will have an array of spells, synergized or not, working for you. You will have rejuvenation potions working to keep you alive and your spells fuelled. You will have items that compliment particular spells, or spells that compliment particular items. You will have various terrain advantages, treasure to loot, and traps to use.

As a avid wc3 mini-game/survival gamer, this map definitely gets a 5/5.Why? I will explain below.

First of all, the concept for this map is well planned out and very VERY original. It is about collecting and combining the various spells that you picked up. This makes every game different and fun. It is exactly what the description says, "By properly synergizing all the spells available, ...... provided there is good team work". Don't understand? Play the game and you shall know. IThe description totally explains all about the game play, and those who complain a short description, you didn't play the game obviously =.=

2ndly, its a 100% co-op game that requires a full house. Players are required to stick side by side and help out one another to collect and find the correct spells for a combination. This is what makes the game fun as interaction is required between players. Ever hate those people going out and killing all the creeps and leaving you none? Hate overpowered players going "I'M GOD! HA!"?
In this game, those will never happen. The game is difficult though, but with the right teammates, it may be possible to win.

If your'e lazy to read the text above, this is my summarised REVIEW.

Pros
  • Very original concept. Probably the only one out there.
  • Requires much teamwork which makes the game really fun, and also prevents people from soloing.
  • Gold is not a primary here, so ksing/last hitting won't do much to help you overpower others.
  • Bosses are challenging and fun.
  • Lots of exploring to be done, nothing is given to you, you gotta FIND :D
  • Many spells, custom ones and non-custom, but making them better as you get certain spells, is what gives the game a edge.

Cons
  1. Steep learning curve. Noobs/Beginners can kill the game aka make it short and boring
  2. Bosses are very hard to win.
  3. Lacks a deeper explanation for newbs in the game, some people still act/are noob even after explaination. Eg. The stepping of shiny square buttons.
  4. Unbeatable? Tried with two friends on skype, and two other regular players which played before. LOST.

It is a very interesting game, especially if played with friends. If your'e into fun, challenging, co-op, UNBEATABLE i think so, game, THIS IS A definite "must try or die" game.

I thought I explained thoroughly but okay.

remember to get at least 4 players on your team when you are testing =)

Here is a guide to how many players you should get:

Noob Mode: 2 experienced players, 4 players if you are all new
Easy Mode: 4 experienced players, 6 players if you are all new
Normal mode: 6 experienced players, don't attempt this if you are all new

I highly recommend this can play it for hours, hero skill progression feels a lot less linear compared to most other maps

5/5

Great game but a couple things you can work on: spell tomes still give attributes, some still have "permanently increases intelligence" instead of their element, immolation potion says "restores hp", and when you craft things it still says you failed but you get the item and no damage is done. Also, camera locks after revive, and not all heroes revive at the end of each round.

Downloaded for testing, entered "iseedeadpeople" and got kicked out of the game.
Signleplayer cheats exist for a reason: map testing and review.
No review from me, I wont bother hosting a bnet game that I can't test fist.
(because they usually suck)

I left the map for a long while and all this time the version 1.35 had revival glitches in multi-player. I have fixed those glitches along with the problems mentioned in this thread, thanks to everyone who tried the map out. You can now download the new version 1.36 with the glitches fixed and difficulty reduced.

My Review

Mage Siege
Rating:4.5/5
Comment:No imported models(thats cool,hi hate maps with a lot of imported models, except Booody`s Diablo III :)),keeps map size good.Gameplay is also good, because of custom abilityes and waves,bosses,etc...I also like custom UI.Just one thing is missing, but its not important.Empty terrain between regions.Add some "hidden marketplaces" or something like that.

Thank god the revival glitches are fixed. Map is playable for me again! It is a lot of fun when you don't die and respawn to find a camera lock..
