Map Info


Battleground is a RPG map which players can play three modes; Survival Mode, Team Battle, and Free for All. Only Player 1 has the power to choose which mode and the levels of the creep (Beginner, Amateur, Expert and Professional). Each players get to choose weapons (such as Bow, Dual Daggers, Sword and Shield, Spear or Axe and Staff) in the beginning of the game.

Survival Mode - An ancient generator will be spawned at the center of the Arena and must be protected against creep waves and bosses.

Team Battle - A normal battle between two teams, a team that has the highest score wins, this mode has enabled duel timers where teams will fight in an isolated area.

This is an intresting map, but the retraining could be improved a tad bit, by maybe using different tiles other than the default war3 tiles.
I have a feeling that the movement system is going to be difficult to use especially in such enclosed spaces, but I haven't tested the map yet so it might not.
All in all this is a good looking map and I can't wait to test it.

I've tested your map. A lot of things are pretty nice, and I can see this project eventually being pretty fun.

At this time I have a number of notes I took, most of which are small bugs:

  • When computer players are added, their name appears on the multiboard, but they don't actually appear in game.
  • In omniscient camera view (not the third person view), the camera centers on a point slightly north of your hero - better would be to center in front of your hero's facing direction, or just on the hero itself. (Items to the south of your hero are currently obscured)
  • After a short while, FPS dropped to 20, indicating major leak issues (war3.exe was at 270MB RAM) Eventually it dropped back down, so I'm not sure what was going on.
  • Third person camera is impossible to use, and frustrating - sensitivity acceleration when turning left and right was a joke.
  • Ability slots 6, 7, 8 have incorrect tooltips (not matching 1-5)
  • Hero Ability Menu (agi, str, and int) stats are kind of silly fluff/worthless - just give heroes stats per level in my opinion
  • I was surprised to see camera zoom commands in the equipment menu. Better would be to put them in a camera controls menu.
  • Camera zoom options don't correctly maintain state - after teleporting to the arena I was super zoomed in and couldn't find the zoom functions in time.
  • Command Card (BTNs at bottom right) seems overutilized and crowded - maybe move some menus into Hero proxies (icons on left, accessible with F2-Fn keys)
  • While shopping, the boss started repeating "Death to the servants of Nerzul" every 5 seconds for quite awhile
  • The boss spawned before I even had time to enter the arena. Maybe make a shopping grace period where no units spawn
  • "Round Curved Shield" has 3 charges - no idea why
  • "Round Curved Shield" warns "You're not a warrior" when trying to equip, although the tooltip says "Class: Any"
  • Buying the wrong item is pretty unforgiving. Maybe give items full re-sell value if performed within 60 seconds of buying them. Or maybe a warning on all (rings, for example) saying "You can only wear one ring."

My overall experience was good, the map is just unrefined. If you submitted this to the map DB I'd probably rate it 3* and vote for approval.

If you fix all of the points mentioned above, I'll take another look.

Are you sure? look again. I see that there are active and passive icons which are different, but I think really there is a tooltip error on 6-8

I chose FFA. Yes, I spent 5 minutes at least before I went into the arena. I'm not saying to make this timer longer, but I'm saying maybe add 1 minute before this timer starts where arena has NO spawns, and teleporter is not enabled - so there is plenty of time for shopping and planning

I find that very unclear. Just write "Minimum level: 5" in tooltip.

-I'll try to put another slot for the ring and necklace

No, I'm not asking for extra ring and necklace slot, I am saying that when I first started to play I lost my gold because I bought 2 rings before I remembered that equipment system.

The same applies for helms. "You can buy only one helm" would be very clear.

+ I loved the introduction of the map with the whole camera thing going on, the only problem I would have with the beginning of the map.

- The selection area is a tad bit boring maybe add some doodads to make the area more appealing and for the characters maybe you could trigger them to say a line from one of the war3 units as they feel a bit unlively.

- I would suggest a new name for that one character called "blader" maybe change it to blade master, as in my opinion the name blader is really boring.

+ I like the movement you implemented although clunky it was still fluid and is also a change to the normal click and point arena maps.

- When i looked in the shop I saw very few items.

- As I was pressing different buttons I found that the game control button that changes your camera view was very unresponsive it works once and doesnt work for a while.

- The archer is a very intresting class but their first ability in my opinion is very useless, you should either increase the distance he dashes or make the ability to make him invisible.

making it very irritating so you should put a timer for the creeps. I also like the idea of the boss and duel events.

This is a great map to play with a lot of time and effort put into it, I would enjoy playing this map any day as it is different, but the only problem I have with is that it is a tad bit too complicatedmaking it very difficult for beginners to get used to the game. But all in all this is a good game with a high enjoyment rate even in its early stages.

Rating 4.5 + 2 (alpha bonus) = 6.5/10

-I am currently working on the items... it's because I have too many things to do when creating just 1 item.. I have to be very careful setting their variables.. In my equipment system , I use 3 abilities which are the Item Preview(the item description), Item Model(the item attachments), and the Item Spellbook(the item passive abilities ex; armor bonus, hp regen).

-the first ability is the tripple shot.. it's more powerful than you can imagine as the level goes up.. imagine if the target stand in front of you he will be hit by 3 arrows which means 3 x the damage

This is a great map to play with a lot of time and effort put into it, I would enjoy playing this map any day as it is different, but the only problem I have with is that it is a tad bit too complicatedmaking it very difficult for beginners to get used to the game. But all in all this is a good game with a high enjoyment rate even in its early stages.

I tested the latest version. The polish seems to have improved, but there are still loads of issues - sometimes functional issues that affect the maps playability.

  • After dying during wave 1, I respawned and returned to the arena. When I reached the middle where hundreds of creeps were attacking the core, my FPS dropped to *2*.
    • Set a soft creep maximum to prevent this - when there are too many creeps already spawned, slow down or stop the timer.
    • Another option is to use fewer creeps in total - instead of waves spawning 4*4*n creeps, maybe 4*2*(n/2) will improve this.
  • Movement system jitters uncontrollably when walking into walls - this is ugly and distracting. These things are fixable!
  • During my first play I chose survival mode with 10 waves in beginner difficulty. I lost the match before I even entered the arena (was still shopping)
    • Don't start the arena timer until players have chosen their class
    • If you're worried about players afking in the class select period, set a maximum timer for class selection - at least 60 seconds.
    • Even with that, the first round begins too soon.
  • After using one of my six health potions, all of them disappeared!
  • Survival mode difficulty is, quite obviously, not scaling well with number of players. I tried to test it solo and there were massive amounts of creeps.
  • Sorcerer should be spelled with two R's (not 3 as you have used)

Map still isn't ready for production, but improvements are obvious.

-remember.. you can save your character by typing -save and -load to load it again so you won't start at level 1 all over again..
-before saving you must unequip all your equipped items and put it inside your stash or inventory to be able to save your character..

That seems like a bit of a false choice to me. Why would you make survival mode available in single-player if only free-for-all is viable? Why not just adjust difficulty dynamically and make it interesting for all player concentrations?

No, I checked this very carefully: the potions disappeared from the equipment dummy

remember.. you can save your character by typing -save and -load to load it again so you won't start at level 1 all over again

Why exactly would you *not* want players to start all over again? There seems to be inconsistency here - allowing players to start at level 10 with equipment is a game design flaw.

before saving you must unequip all your equipped items and put it inside your stash or inventory to be able to save your character..

Don't impose your limitations on others. That's a *bug* - fix it or remove it.

Ah! That must be it. I walked up to a massive group of spitting spiders, they all attacked me simultaneously and I respawned with no health pots. Maybe set a cooldown for the potions?

well.. because it's rpg? you don't want to waste your time leveling up and getting stronger if you're just gonna start level 1 all over again..

I don't know if i can fix this..but it will take me time to trigger this xD

I still don't really agree with the premise - you have a major identity crisis going on right now. I imagined this game as a hero arena with various play-modes. Without explorable areas/dungeons, you'll never be a real RPG.

Consider MOBAs - imagine if players could save/load in DotA

-Oh... the reason why I only use an arena because I don't want to expand the map YET ..this will make me put a lot of doodads and will make the saving time longer.. I want to avoid that so I can save the map faster.. I'm setting aside that "explorable areas/dungeons" for now because I'm focusing on making abilities and items..maybe after I complete the abilities and some items I will surely make the map very large..
