Environmental Harassment - 2 ideas

1. Yet another idea. Make an area, which forces players to either go through the whole thing without resting or go back to get full reset. If the players use rest, it is automatically interrupted by 'natural intervention'. In a snowy area = frostbite, in a lava area = fire damage, etc. etc.
To prevent potion abuse, said area has a maximum time that can be spent just waiting, or maybe its a total time for the entire place. That's up to you.

2.Harsh general area dangers: Some grinding areas will have special dangerous elements to their location. This could be: rockslide in mountains, snow storms in snow, volcano spatter being shoot from the volcano into random small aoe in a specific region range. These things can both be a danger and an advantage to the players. If they can get monsters running into them, they can work in a positive way.

Sorry, I can't help it coming up with suggestions all the time. :)

Would be neat idea for a repeatable quest, could just have a timer to enter the area, collect what you need to collect maybe kill a few mobs, don't get it done in time, forced to leave and fail the quest or something, rather then actual hazards, just put a physical timer, and every character in that area is sent out

Just to make it clear, point 1 and 2 are two separate suggestions and 2 has nothing to do with the instanced area descriped in 1.

In 1, the one you wrote about, the point of the hazards is not so much to do anything other than indicate, in an easily understandable way, that you simply cannot rest in this area. Similar to how Bhaal did the "HAHAHAAHHA poison cloud" thing on you if you stood still too long in the Destruction fortress.

In 2 it is similar to destructible environment as seen in many hack and slash games (explosive barrels etc.) however, they are not controllable, rather players must adapt to them.
