Community

Code of Conduct

Welcome to the Hive Discussion Forums! These forums are here to provide you with a friendly environment where you can discuss ideas, give advice, and converse about any other aspects of Blizzard games (Warcraft, Starcraft & Diablo) with other members. Community forums are at their best when participants treat their fellow posters with respect and courtesy. Therefore, we ask that you conduct yourself in a civilized manner when participating in these forums.

The guidelines and rules listed below explain what behavior is expected of you and what behavior you can expect from other community members. Note that the following guidelines are not exhaustive, and may not address all manner of offensive behavior. As such, the forum moderators shall have full discretion to address any behavior that they feel is inappropriate. Be advised that some rules which are not listed here adhere specifically for certain forums found on this site. Thusly be sure to read the posts marked as “sticky” within the respective forum boards. The general site rules still apply to all sections, with no exceptions. Also, suspension or banishment from the forums will always result in the same in regard to chat access. Your access to these forums is a ‘privilege’, and not a ‘right’. The Hive Administration Team reserves the right to suspend your access to these forums at any time for reasons that include, but are not necessarily limited to, your failure to abide by these guidelines.

We reserve the right to evaluate each incident on a case by case basis. The action we take may be more lenient or more severe than those listed under each category:

Racial / Ethnic

This category includes both clear and masked language and/or links to websites containing such language or images which:

  • Promote racial/ethnic hatred
  • Are recognized as a racial/ethnic slur
  • Allude to a symbol of racial/ethnic hatred

If a member is found to have participated in such actions, he/she will:

  • Be temporarily banned from the forums
  • Be given a final warning, after which any further Code of Conduct violations may result in a permanent ban from the forums

Trading

The Hive is not a marketplace. Offering or soliciting items for sale or in trade is not permitted through:

  • Forum posts
  • Linking to eBay or other online marketplaces
  • Listing you have something for trade and then offering your contact information

If a member is found to have participated in such actions, he/she will:

  • Be given a final warning, after which any further Code of Conduct violations may result in a permanent ban from the forums
  • Be permanently banned from the forums

While these repercussions may seem harsh, we feel very strongly that this behavior has no place on the forums due to its extremely offensive and inappropriate nature.

IMPORTANT

  • This policy is not language-restrictive. Language that falls under this policy will always be subject to the repercussions listed, whether it is inappropriate in English or any other language.
The bottom line is that we want Hive to be a fun and safe environment for all members. While chatting and posting on its forums, you will encounter hundreds of other members who share different experiences and come from vastly different backgrounds. While certain language and images may not be offensive to you, consider the fact that that same language and images may have a completely different effect on someone else. We’re doing everything we can to make this a great environment – now it’s up to you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Board FAQ
Here you can find answers to questions about how the board works. Use the links below or the search box above to find your way around.

The Hive Workshop's Rules

Site basics

  1. Accounts: Each individual may choose to create an account to create a virtual record of all his activity, as well as gain privileges into The Hive Workshop's forums, including the ability to submit posts, threads, resources and a set number of media types. All submissions are thereon signed under a nickname (also called «username») of the user's choice. An account only holds personal information that its agent chooses to volunteer.

  2. Singular agent: Also called the «(no) multi-accounting rule». Each individual that frequents our website is, upon the creation of an account, entitled to that account alone, meaning that the same user cannot have multiple accounts. In the case that the user creates more than one account, the administration reserves the right to close any accounts the user has made. Meaning, users who create more than account are liable to be banned.
    • Username: Nicknames of pejorative language or offensive meaning are liable to be terminated. The (no) racism and (no) discrimination rules also apply to nicknames.
      • Name change requests: The user may, at times, request his account's nickname to be changed. The administration may choose, however, to deny the request, so choose wisely!

  3. Privacy: Any message that is intended to be visible to only the sender and recipient is considered private. The Hive Workshop staff is normally unable to moderate private messages or pastebins. Private messages may be reported, however, in order to bring its contents to the attention of the staff. The Hive Workshop's staff is not responsible for material uploaded to its pastebins.
    • While pastebins remain private, users who have created them will usually link to them for others to see its contents. In the case that a pastebin violates these rules and its link is visible to the administration, the pastebin may be deleted.

Contents

  1. Discrimination: Do not post racist, sexist, or otherwise discriminatory messages. This includes, but is not limited to, discriminating people over their opinion.

  2. Flaming: Deliberately hostile or insulting messages are not allowed.

  3. Game exports: As of September 28, 2011, The Hive Workshop is accepting the exportation and use — in maps or mods — of artistic resources (skins, icons, and models) from games whose copyrights are owned by Activision Blizzard or Blizzard Entertainment.
The Hive does not accept, in the form of submissions, exports or edits of exports, no matter how minimal they are, of artistic resources whose copyrights are not owned by Blizzard. Hyperlinks to such works are also forbidden.
    • Requests forum: Users are allowed to export, modify and upload resources — admitting the number of solicited items is reasonable — at their discretion. There is no policy regarding the quality or degree of modification of such exports within this particular forum ONLY.
      • The staff decides whether or not the number of requested resources is reasonable.
    • Maps: Maps may now utilize exports from other Blizzard games. Unlike in many of the other sections, we will not request that the resources you use in your map are fitting with the game, but your discernment on their use will be subject to the evaluation of our Map Moderators.
If your map has been previously rejected on grounds of Blizzard copyright infringement, you may request for it to be restored in the Map Resource Moderation.
    • Skins: Arbitrary uploading of exported textures is not condoned. Skin Moderators will allow copy-and-paste (CnP) in your textures to a degree, but The Hive strongly encourages the production of original work.
    • Icons: You are allowed to utilize icons from Blizzard games other than Warcraft III (WC3) or StarCraft II (SC2) as base images. However, every icon that you upload to our Icon or SC2 Resources sections is still subject to the at-least-75%-freehand rule as well as the requirements of proper bordering and formatting in order to suit the destined game environment.
    • Models: Any exported model that you upload to our Models or SC2 Resources sections must be formatted properly to be fitting with other models of the destined game. For example, the difference on the number of polies of a WoW-to-WC3 model and other WC3 models must not be too high, and WC3-to-SC2 models must receive proper diffuse, emmisive and specular textures.
Note that any resources you upload, wherever you upload them, on the Hive Workshop, have to have Blizzard mentioned as one of the original authors if a part, no matter how small it is, of the resource has been designed using Blizzard resources. This can be done in a post where you attached exports or in a resource's description.

  4. Illegal Material: The uploading of any illegal material to this site, no matter the means (posts, resources, attachments...) is forbidden. Linking to pages that provide illegal material from this site is also forbidden. The list of illegal materials includes, but is not limited to, pornography, psychoactive drugs, bootleg software, software designed to circumvent legal restrictions, and any material that such a program would produce.

  5. Language (English only): You are allowed to write only in English in any publicly visible context of this site. This includes visitor messages.
    • As of late, the staff has noticed a tendency for users to insult each other through visitor messages, sometimes in a different language. This does not decrease the chances that someone will notice, meaning that any message, regardless of the language it is written on, may be liable to be punished for more than just not being written in English, depending on its content and according to these rules.

  6. Private servers: The advertisement, discussion, or promotion of private game servers is prohibited. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to World of Warcraft® private servers (read: WoW terms of use).

  7. Sex: This isn't that type of site. Don't talk about sexually orientated or any other obscene subject.

  8. Trading: The Hive is not a marketplace. Offering or soliciting items for sale or in trade is not permitted.

Post, thread and discussion canons

  1. Advertising: Do not submit threads or posts with the sole purpose of advertising.
  2. Bumping and multiple posting: A post (or the act of posting) with the purpose of making the thread rise to the top of the listing is called bump(ing). You may only bump your thread if no posts have been submitted to it in the last 48 hours. You may not submit one or more posts after you've posted (double-post, triple-post, quadruple-post...).
  3. Double threading: You may only create one thread for a given subject. If you have placed it on the wrong forum, report your thread and it'll be moved.
  4. Notable account characteristics: Threads to protrude a detail of an account, including, but not limited to, post count or reputation, are not permitted.
  5. Recipient-specific: Making a thread addressing a single person is not allowed. Private and/or visitor messages should be used.
  6. Revival ("necroposting"): You may revive a thread at any time if you wish to continue the discussion. This is preferable over creating a new thread.
  7. Spam (repetition): Posting the same message repeatedly, whether in a single post or multiple posts, is not allowed.
  8. Spam (noncontributory): While the concept of "spam" was used to describe meaningless repetition of a collection of characters, words, phrases or meaningless rubble, it is also commonly used to describe something that adds nothing to the discussion.
  9. Off-topic and thread-hijacking: Closely related to the above point, it is advisable to stick to the thread's initial subject unless the discussion heads for a valid, related tangent. Hijacking a thread with unrelated matters is forbidden.

Social groups

  • Purpose: Groups must have a purpose, that is neither too broad nor too specific, and not replace a forum or a thread on its finalities. Groups concerning your latest complaint, details that can otherwise be revealed in your account or about, in general, yourself are not allowed.

Chat

  1. Any rule that is applicable to written content also applies to a written message in the chat. The first page of the Chat provides additional info on generic guidelines for it.
  2. Bullying/trolling: Sending off ironic, sarcastic or overall bad-intentioned remarks at someone else or something someone else has written is liable to be punished. This also applies to @Away messages.
    • Definitions of «trolling» usually involve the concept of intention. While forum and chat moderators will often refrain from punishing someone over trolling, the administration may find itself qualified to judge the intention of the user and sanction the user because of it.
  3. Symbol spamming: Spamming alternate characters is not allowed, neither in regular chat messages nor in @Away messages.
