What I'd like to see:

I'd like to see more strict enforcement of the flaming rule which Ive noticed usually is ignored. I'd also like to see it elaborated upon to limit mod interpretation. Good example would be you can say "stop acting like an idiot" but you can't say "you're an idiot".

Whats your thoughts on this?

P.S. don't post troll comments. Yes I'm talking to THAT group of people. When you inevitably read this either post your valid and on topic opinion or don't post at all. Thanks in advance.

I do. Sometimes it gets taken care of and sometimes it doesn't. Hence why I think the rule should be more strict with a more clear definition of the rule to remove any wiggle room and make the judgment call easier for mods.

Also, he was posting invalid facts. I said that this isnt not art, and i didnt know why Ash asked it to be moved.

Actually in the latest thread, the Diablo 2 one, I reported, and I read that you did it too, and Elenai did doll out neg rep for that.

If he (or someone else) didn't do it, I was going to post in admin contact. But, instead of posting I just reported, which is what I usually do.

You're a better person than I am then hehe. Good to know others don't tolerate that garbage as well though. Regardless of that instance do you think a more clear definition with a set punishment would be an improvement or a totally unneeded clarification?

Well, there is a clear definition of what flaming/trolling is and depending on the severity you get neg rep and/or an infraction.

Some moderators do it too much, not enough, for dumb reasons, or for bad reasons. That isn't going to change, ever, even if you did a complete reworking of the staff.
The only real problem is with the execution of those rules. Some moderators/admins completely ignore posts by their friends or ones that make them "lul" even if they're complete troll/flame posts.

But all in all, most of the moderators/admins do their jobs and do it well. I know I was upset by 1-2 choices for moderators (and I know others were as well) but unless those people completely screw up you are (we're) going to have to live with it.

But generally, if you have a problem with someone or something (I don't mean this thread, I mean other threads), it's best to go to admin contact and talk to them and try to get it resolved, instead of doing it in public where it's plausible/probable that you'll get the negrep/infraction when you could do it in private and actually do some good.

Other than one certain mod I don't think Ive ever seen a mod blatantly ignore rules for the "lulz". I'd even go as far as saying that 99% of the administration is fair and effective on this site. I still believe the rule could benefit from more strict punishment and the definition could be spelled out for the users who happen to be a fan of the velcro shoe. There's no reason to ever start flaming another user unless they've decided to start calling you racist because you've compared them to a monkey flinging poo. (Don't laugh it's happened to me before)

If you don't think a specific moderator is doing their job adequately and effectively, please report them in the admin contact forum. If you're concerned with the staff in general, which you appear to be, then know that I am taking steps on my own accord to tighten up on the rules across the site. It's difficult, though, since I can't tell people how to act and by no means does 99% of the staff ever agree with me on everything.

I can't give a time frame, nor can I give a resolute answer as to how it will be dealt with. All I can say is that I'm working on it.

I will soon enact a tighter watch upon users who are reported, and users who will be reported. And included in this watch will be more neg rep dealt out to troublesome users.

Now that infractions are only two points to a ban, the neg rep is now finally a fierce warning.

As for moderators, I am not entirely sure where my bounds lie. Who I can punish, if punishment is needed.

Though to answer some of DIY's questions concerning moderator punishment (if he has them) that is usually where the Directors come in.

Moderators punishing their fellows is usually looked down upon (as of now) but I will begin addressing this issue with my fellow compatriots.

He's being more reasonable right now, at least.

Really, this is the way the forum has been for a long time, but it's nowhere near catastrophic. People are more or less reasonable, and of course the staff is not perfect, but major flaming never happens for no reason. If there is a really pointless argument, reporting it usually works.

I suggest Mods/Admins start "pruning" threads, something that is done on other boards (some very stable and intelligent ones I might add). Basically, what that is is just a way of removing pointless arguments from threads, and keeping fires down. It works.

Also, I'm still against the very existence of the rep system, which I think causes more trouble than it adds value to these boards. I think it's actually more or less (mostly less) the cause of a lot of these problems, but it's been discussed before and it's not leaving yet.

This isn't about ike_ike, he's a dotard anyways. (omfg. dotard is actually a word according to firefox!)

Besides, there will always be idiots we just need to figure out how to deal with them, and since most spammers don't tend to care about their rep and wear their infractions like purple hearts, well, we need something more "influential". We could enlist the help of the mafia ;)
