Arcane
Arcane is a rare type of magic in Eiroth, and not many know it. Arcane requires you to have a very powerful mind and will power and cannot be used by lesser Men. If you don't have an incredibly powerful mind, you can get tired after 1 simple spell! With practise, you will slowly get less tired, but it's still very tiresome, even at high levels. Eligos and Garder'el and the Foras Cult of Magic studied the Arcane Magic in the First Age. Xingdao Fan also brought some strange Arcane to the cult, and it was her who taught Marie Antoniette of the race of Men to use the Arcane Magic. It was not known exactly how Marie Antoniette learned it, as Men have a weak and easy-to-manipulate mind. It may have been her wish for vengeance, but it is possible that the Silvercrest family had descended of the High Men. High Elves may have used this magic, too.
There are three types of Arcane magic: Fire, Frost, and innate Arcane. Arcane magics were discovered by the Dark Elves and later studied by the Foras Cult.
Not many practise these anymore besides those who use Necromancy, as Necromancy can be considered sub-arcane. It is possible that this type of magic will seize to exist someday, if it isn't passed to anyone else. It is also believed that people who practise Arcane magic for years and very often, become bind to an evil will. Arcane Magic can be considered dangerous for this.
Shamanism
The shaman's power is drawn from nature and the elements. Shamans use magical totems to focus the elemental energy that they channel for use in their spells. You can consider Thunder, Wind, probably Water and most likely Earth, important elements of Shamanism. Shamanism can be powerful depending on the situations it is used. If there's a storm going on, it's obvious that Thunder spells will be more effective if you relly on their powers. If you are near Water, you will find it easier to relly on Water powers, and so on. Likewise, if you find yourself in the opposite of these situations, you will require much more power and the story will be told from Z to A instead of A to Z (...)
This type of magic is very common amongst Orcs and Trolls, althrough it's believed that the High Men always used Shamanism, and some of the Lesser Men also learned it's arts. It was very common amongst Earth Elves, who used the Earth powers very often.
No one can just summon something out of nothing with Shamanism. You have to relly fully on the nature elements and you
cannot summon things with it unless they are combined elements (no excuses for using this).
Druidism
Another nature-reliant class, Druids derive their power from the earth itself, although they do not require totems to channel energy like shamans. They become agents of nature itself, forming a bond with all beings of nature and pulling their strength directly from that bond. If your conection with Nature is very strong, you can manipulate Druidism very easily, so this is hard for beginners, whom conection is very weak or null. You require much more energy when having a good relationship with nature, though. Druidism can be considered a sub-class of Shamanism, althrough they relly heavily on their conection with nature. Nature, Wind and Water are important elements of Druidism.
Not many are known to use this magic besides Wood Elves. Those were believed to be spawn from nature itself, althrough it is not known how many of these races came to existence. The Foras Cult may have used this type of magic aswell. Dark Elves also used it but no dark elf could ever establish a good conection with nature, therafore, it was forgotten over the years, and it may have fallen into mysteries at the end of the First Age.
People who use this type of magic can be considered Druids. The stronger your friendship with nature is, the more power you require to cast the spell depending on the spell's potency. The conection with nature will also slowly wane over time if you stop using this magic, thus knocking you back to point 0.
Holy/Light
Holy magic was originally practised by the High Men. The monks and priests who practise it invoke the energies of The Holy Light, the magical entity thought to embody the power of the spirit of Men. It is mainly used to protect and heal. There are two types, though, the old Light and the modern Light. The old Holy magic which was probably only practised by High Men was much more powerful and effective, while the Modern Holy magic theory says that it was God who allowed them to use the power of the Light to honour his name, and that any use of Holy magic without the wish to promote the Church and God's name would be punished with death. When that happened, the effectivity of the Holy Magic slowly decreased and became a lesser magic type. Many were executed for using the Holy Magic for their own and private use.
This type of magic was used by the so-called Paladins, Human priests and many monks, althrough monks were most of the times fist-fighters and did not relly on the Holy powers. Paladins were considered a great men, as the men of the church considered them true holy warriors.
In the early years of the Second Age, the Order of the White Towers was founded and the rank of Clerics formed. Clerics wished to promote the use of Holy Magic to their own honour and for the use of it against evil. This cult was often hunt down by the church. Many of the Paladins promoted this Order and joined it against the church.
Holy Magic is only used by the Lesser Men now. The Church is now hunting down the Order of the WT to promote themselves and the name of their "God".
Voodoo
Voodoo is a strange tribal mix between the power of the shaman and alchemy, practiced exclusively by Troll Witch Doctors of the Second Age. They often combine reagents in a cauldron to create strange brews that most often result in bizarre transformations when consumed. They are widely known for placing hexes to morph victims into frogs. Voodoo is only known to be practiced by a few Trolls.
Fel
The term Fel refers to the magicks used by Demôins, more specifically, Demons. The form of magic used by warlocks is best described as a form of fel energy, since it relies heavily on demonology.
Black Orks rellied heavily on the Fel magic given to them by Borguz, a Demon of high power who Geimos Darkeye met before leaving to Zhom'Thal. Fel is much like Arcane, but it's considered Demonology. It is unknown if it is used by any other race, but it's impossible to use it without having any conection to the Devil.
Necromancy
Necromancy is similar to the magicks used by warlocks, however, instead focuses on the study of death rather than demonology, therafore they do not need to have conection to the Devil, sometimes the plain wish of doing Evil is more than enough. They are capable of reviving living creatures from death to do their bidding as undead, or living-dead (as called by the Church of Men) servants. The soul of the former owner of the corpse will be enslaved to the necromancer's will. If the corpse had a very powerful mind aswell and the necromancer is only an adept or apprendite, though, it might even retain his sences, even if he's the single servant of the necromancer.
It is believed it were The Forgotten who developped necromancy, and later the aberration, the Overmind, perfected it and made an army with this type of magic. Necromancy requires a strong mind power and force of will. Only the Overmind was capable of rising an army as large as The Un'Oorg, as even the most powerful of the necromancers cannot have more than 40 or 50 undead servants. When having more than this, the necromancer's head will start hurting as if his brain was being burned. The undead may realize they are actually being used, and may counter-attack. When an undead is killed, the soul will remain slowly dissipate if he's not turned to a skeleton immediatley. After an animated skeleton is destroyed, the soul will finally dissipate in peace.
Mira found a book by Arantir about Necromancy:
"It is unknown where the necromancy came, but the talent to use necromancy is incredible. To be able to form things from just endless piles of bones is amazing. Even i, cannot understand the true meaning of necromancy, but can understand its power. Why do people believe that the necromancers are worshippers of some ancient god of destruction? This is only the theory that Men have invented. Most of our cults are made for practising our necromancy. We are strange people to others, but do we really differ from them all.
And as for me, when learned the art of necromancy, it gave me so much thought that maybe we could get even more, it felt amazing when had learned such easy form of magic in such short time, and it was powerful, too. Of course even us, the few ''good'' necromancers left in this world, are in knowledge of this ''hate towards necromancers'', and that is exactly why some of us plan to do some strange things and such. The ways to find necromancy are:
Find a necromancer or, then read a book and try practising some of the runes that necromancers use. Then spell a necromantic word while placing your hand on the symbol.
Celest
The Celest types of Magicks are dedicated to the power of the Moon. The Celest magic lies on the Moon's gravitional power. Gravity can also be considered an Element of Celest. The name "Celest" was given because of the name the Wood Elves gave to the Moon (Celestia).
The Moonfolk were the first to use this type of magic. They also taught the Aidothi of he North to use it.
Celest is more powerful during the night, and it requires much more power to be cast during the day. They also require a Mooncrystal to absorb the moonlight at night, and then use it's energy (so they cannot use Celest magic out of nothing). The crystal does not break or dissipate after being used, but requires more moon rays to fill the potency again.
