ive had my share of deadlines screw me over in the past. i still had fun, just, deadlines meant something..

Frostwhisper: Very nice terrain, overall. I didn't like the summer fog and the background though, it was missing something.

FamousPker49: I liked your a lot but I didn't really like the cabin. The idea was great but it could've been bigger.

AirHead: Foreground is very empty and the rocks around the pool look bad. Another problem is that there is a major lack of tile variation.

thedeathunterxx: Awesome! But I don't like those barrens rocks.

Just Spectating: Kinda flat and empty, even for a city. I think the scene was a bad decision.

Ilayat: I don't really like the ferns or the river.

Belgarath: Nice, but the fog was too much.

Oziris: I didn't really like the bridge or the rock hill.

Black Crown: I don't like the water fall, or that the units are the center of attention.

Mr.Goblin: Foreground is great! I just hate the background. Way too empty making it look very odd and unproportional. I hate the fog in the Winter one and the lack of fog in Summer ruins it. Another concern are those 'clouds'. They make it look messy.

/Naze: Nice, but that water should be ice. In winter at least.

SeRviLy: It's alright. There are too many trees, it really clashes.

~Void~: Im not a huge fan of the village and the waterfall kinda pops out of place. Also, I don't like the glow at night.

FrIkY: Nice, but some of the effects are a bit too much on the runestone.

Volvox: Some of the tints are a bit off, and the Winter scene is way too empty.

Thrikodius: The flames, rock chunks, tile, and Lordaeron Summer trees really ruined it for me.

ThePunisher: The ferns suck and the foreground is a tad empty. Otherwise, quite nice.

Void's work is best so far imo, tho you could make water less transparent by... adding another layer for example. There's one more thing I've noticed in most of the terrains: pines are yellow in fall, says who? Pines are not yellow in fall. They turn yellow only when the heat is unbearable for them.

Yellow/orange is the BEST way to portray fall. Not necessarily absolute realism. The theme is about change over the four seasons.

I found it difficult to choose between frostwhisper's and Friky's... Rather than judging by terraining skills, I prefered to seek for originality and your common idea of a natural "monument" through the seasons caught my attention, greatly differing from everyone else's.
Comparing both submissions I felt more attracted to frostwhisper's, for 2 reasons: first, it's because Friky doesn't like to use grass doodads in his terrains, showing quite a lot bare grass tileset (something that I dislike). In second place was frostwhisper's experience in terraining. But precisely by this I vote for Friky's, because many will choose you, frostwhisper, for your obvious skill and experience, while I'd like to give the opportunity to others to win the prize. In conclusion, my vote goes to you, Friky.
All the other participants: Incredible terrains! This is an awesome expostion of Hive's terrainers at work, and I hope that I will be able to compete in the next competition.

actually, to be honest, Void's work was good, but it didn't seem to be that ...you know excellent.

I dont know why, Because Void's work is Usually legendary.
I dont feel the Four seasons going on in his SS.

However, Mr. Goblins and Black Crowns really show excellencey :
Black Crown : Creative, good looking, and displays all aspects of the 4 seasons
Mr.Goblins : Extremely creative, very good looking, had small issues ( except christmas , christmas was awsome ) but good none the less good.

Other entries were very good, but lacking ( including mine )

I choose black Crown, his was to me the best :)

I'm noticing (just a bit) of people voting purely out of popularity and the main focus of the terrain. For example, Frostwhisper's Hand. I'm not saying they aren't good terrains, they deffinatley deserve at least 70% of those votes, but please look over the entire terrain; Foreground, mid ground, and background.

Gilles, you should put a bit of thought into making it so that the pictures are 'private' - like on the helper, you should take a look. Would really help TBH.

I think anyone who votes and has zero posts and/or hasn't been at this site since the poll started should have their vote nullified. Even with IP matches, there are proxy servers and public internet locations that one could go to if they are really that desperate. Since it's the internet, I'm not counting that out... :\

Ok, I'm going to say my opinion about the terrains, and I don't want anyone to be offended by any way:

frostwhisper (I don't like the background in your pics, it's very empty)
Spring: I like the vines on the hand and how there's some snow left from the winter
Summer: I think you made Summer the best, nice use of units and doodads
Fall: this picture looks sad (i didn't said bad, I said sad)
Winter: I like the ice on the hand, but those snowy pines look a bit ugly to me

FamousPker49 (I like the process how the cottage was built, in one year)
Spring: I think that pic ''Spring'' should be summer
Summer: and pic ''Summer'' should be spring, because of fog and doodads (flowers)
Fall: is nice, bit empty... but it still looks nice
Winter: looks good, but that fog from chimney is too light and blueish, is that some ''holy fog''? :P

AirHead (not enough doodads in your pics)
Spring: Every tree is the same, not enough doodads, using just 2 tiles
Summer: Almost the same as Spring, just with even less doodads, different fog and atmosphere
Fall: I don't like the tile (even less doodads)
Winter: this one's ok

Just_Spectating (I don't like the road in your pics)
Summer: all your pics would looks better with another path
Spring: and they could use some units, like grunts or peons
Fall: this one is the best of all four
Winter: this would been better without green circle that's on the middle of path

Ilayat (it could be better if you have put some more grass, and some units maybe)
Spring: it could be better with more doodads
Fall: I like this one, but purple flowers don't match the pic
Winter: My favorite, but snow tile and road tile in this picture don't match
Summer: this one needs fog

That's actually a really good idea, it keeps the tiles texture from getting stretched. I did the same thing for my city in the mountains terrain.

I think void and I are similar - environment terrainers with no ideas. We aren't meant to make interesting things that make your head spin with all the stuff about angles etc but rather simple things that look good - usually on a larger scale. That's my thought. Probably why I liked voids the most...

Criteria lols

frostwhisper: you caught my attention with the hand, but the rest isn't very nice. Background cuts off, and you didnt bother to do much environment except on the hand. I know, attract attention there, but you have to have a balanced one.
FamousPker49: #2 for me, definitely. I loved the moving sun and the trees getting cut off and put into logs and the building of the cottage. However the background is only so good (not sayings its crap, its quite good). I like balanced terrains :)
Airhead: Narnia much :P? Good job on it, summer has an overkill light and the rest don't have enough, environment doodads missing, but yeah, overall, quite nice.
Just_Spectating: Ehhh. No fog, they pretty much look the same, camera's mashed up against the floor and there's nothing hugely special. But looks nice, all the same.
Ilayat: Pretty good. Lack of fog, though, and lighting, but I like them anyway. Really nice job with environmental doodads and everything else. You have potential, keep working :D.
Hawkwing: Nice. I like it. Really simple with a great idea, trees are turning right etc. Looks very good, but there isnt much to say about it >_>
Mr.Goblin: You either didnt use fog enough or overkilled it. The lighting looks as if the northern hemisphere lights had come out at day with completely different colours than normal, but nice nonetheless.
\Naze: #3 for me. REALLY nice fog and environment, I liked the idea of the bodies in the river and being attacked. The winter seems really cold and empty- very good. Definitely one of the best.
Servily: Needs more fog. Its nice, but not great. Good use of doodads and nice cottage, but you really need the fog to do some work. It helps a lot, trust me, I found that out one time.
~Void~: #1 for me. Great environment, great use of doodads, the most realistic for sure. You did a great job with everything, and it doesn't look like you even used lighting - another bonus. The brew festival is great. Dark and then there's the city - really bright. Then the fjord freezes, you're using RL events and putting them into a terrain - GJ. All very nice.
Friky: It'd be nice playable, but like that ... eh, you did a good job, but not a great one - nice work though :)
Volvox: Mmh, yeah, nice. Winter's too empty, summer/spring a little crowded, but not very, and the fog is nice (the fact that you used none). Good use of skies too.
Thrikodius: Ehh... really not very great. Good use of doodads for the gateway, but it's not very great in total. Would be nice as a playable terrain though.
ThePunisher: Nice but needs more work. There's much too much empty space and you could use some better fog too.

Belgarath, i used fog in every screenshot :O It's just a new way of using the fog i developed, only to slightly alter the colors in the picture. Yeah, i did screw up the winter a little but i had little chance of seeing snow(lived by the Mediterranean sea until 2 years ago) so i had no ideas. We seem to share the terrain opinions to a certain point but i think this time, Frosty's originality was worth more than Void's professionalism.

No, all you do is, you create your terrain, and make a WIP along with final product and map, and send it to the Host. Most likely Gilles. But you CANNOT talk about which is your terrain or who you voted for when the poll is up, because the Host will have posted all the images anonymously and then people will vote for the terrain and not the name.
