Next modelling Contest

Well the tank contest is nearing the end and i noticed we havent decided on a modelling contest yet. there is the minicontest but there isnt the modelling contest.

anyhows, instead of all the weird stuff people make, i say this time, we make stuff that will actually fit in the wc game. i can see some people are thinking that all thses contests are getting pretty useless or of very limited use, myself included.

that means no gnomes or worgen or something like that. some sort of unit that can be incorporated into the existing wc race techtree and fits in it nicely without standing out.

orc, night/blood elf, human, undead, naga, gnolls, centaur, tauren,

that could be an orc archer, human halberdier, battering ram or something. not a tank or a superduper dragon or a giant walking warmachine.

this will give us a variety of useful, generic models that people can use anywhere isntead of having a specific genre of a model like sci-fi or etc.

this can go after the minicontest.

Doodad pack = related to a race..

that would be damn usefull.

let's say.. you have a list of doodads you have to make, that has to folow the same theme concept (race)

Example:
-Lantern
-chest
-weapon rack
-ruins

sticking with the warcraft3 unit race though.

I am not someone that makes models, however I have looked throught the model tab over and over again looking for skins I want, lastly, I was looking for a simple ghoul, which would look alot like a zombie, however, what I found, was lots of skeletons and other stuff which was not really bound to any race at all, other than "bosses". This idea you have come up with is really good. I would aswell say that it should be units, not doodads, there is enought doodads in-game to make me pleased, that is more than I can say about units.

Look at prior race building contests, there is a skeleton race and such in the last one, there are not many race based doodads.

The last few modeling contests were Air Units, Tanks, and Collosi. And the majority of entries were various kinds of steampunk or mechanical contraptions.

When I say "limbless" I should have said "boneless" that would have made more sense... So like, octopuses, squid, and tentacle creatures, etc.

Oh, those are a staple of fantasy games. They are normally called aberrations, and heavily based off of the works of like H P Lovecraft.

Well, the poll will be finished, but what about the judges? That may prove a problem, because then we might lose a few contestants(the judges) or worse than so, we'll have a hard time getting judges.

So I suggest to wait until the results.

Anyways, aberrations basically means tentacle-y monster things? Because I don't quite get it, the Abomination in WC3 looks pretty "aberrational" to me.

the abomination is an example indeed. you don't need tentacles.
some of the eligible aberrations in WC3 for me are:
- forgotten one
- abomination
- dalaran reject/sludge minion
- wildkin... it's a combination of animals body parts, owl, bear, deer, etc. that's aberrational
- draenei and unbroken ones... they are weird enough to look like aberrations
an aberration is something that looks like it wasn't meant to be like that. like some disaster of evolution, or something that suffered intense mutating... or some creepy biological experiment result thing...

Aberration isn't quite the correct word. "Monstrosity" is a better word for how you are defining it.

And i will talk to infinitynexus and supa- about the juding. I seriously doubt that it would be a problem. at all. even if they did decide to join the mini while judging
