Even i am new to this and using only GUI, i am going to join. Have been working for a week now on this, thinking if i will be able to finish and now i think i will, so posting WIP. Only description and some images, thats enough for WIP right?

So there goes my hero:

Main attribute: Strenght

Description:
Warrior/Mage Hero, exceptional at dealing damage.
The name Phoenix warrior comes from their ability to control the Ultimate being of fire - The Phoenix. They are mages who specialise in summoning, controlling spirits/beasts/beings of fire, who in turn controls the destructive flames for them. While the fire beings are hard to control they traded intelligence for strenght, robes for plate armor and staffs for melle weapons.

Flaming Swoop[Active] 10 sec cooldown

Spirits are easier to control, because they are summoned to this world fully under control of hero. Controlling beasts on this side is harder because they got mind of their own. Even if the beast swoops down it sometimes chooses to fly where it wants.

Level 1 - Flaming Beast swoops down and burns units in a line for 70 damage. 100 mana
Level 2 - Flaming Beast swoops down and burns units in a line for 100 damage. 110 mana
Level 3 - Flaming Beast swoops down and burns units in a line for 140 damage. 120 mana

Each level increases damage done, mana cost, width of line and the size of beast.

Symphony Of Firelord[Active] 15 sec cooldown, lasts 8 seconds

Hero calls the spirit of Firelord to play his symphony of fire at targeted location,as he plays the the
land burns damaging all in the area over time, unfortunately the music is only heard by the Firelord himself.

Level 1 - 100 damage in the area and some additional over time. 100 mana
Level 2 - 180 damage in the area and some additional over time. 130 mana
Level 3 - 250 damage in the area and some additional over time. 150 mana

Beast Within[Passive]

Controling Beings of fire is harder than some might think. They always try to break through to this world using their users. This ability lets hero gain more control. When he supreses them it sometimes results in excess energy which is then released by series of fast attacks.

Level 1 - 16% chance to do up to 2 fast hits and gain 5 mana doing 5 extra damage or mana burn each hit or lose 25 health for each undone.
Level 2 - 16% chance to do up to 3 fast hits and gain 5 mana doing 5 extra damage or mana burn each hit or lose 25 health for each undone.
Level 2 - 16% chance to do up to 4 fast hits and gain 5 mana doing 5 extra damage or mana burn each hit or lose 25 health for each undone.

2 Heroes, both with passive chance triggered.

Phoenix Soul[Ultimate][Active] 300 mana, 3min cooldown
Uninteruptable, lasts 30 seconds.

Hero soul leaves his body mounted on Ultimate Being of fire The Phoenix(invulnerable). As Phoenix flyies he burns hero enemies by streams of fire and inspires all units, but heroes(they are not impressed by mere Phoenix) to fight better.If hero dies while his soul is out, Phoenix attaches to the killer, if Phoenix kills the unit he is attached to, Phoenix dissapears.
While hero body acts as medium, the gap that seperates this and fire realms around the hero is large enough to allow stronger spirits come forth and posses allied units(hero souls are too strong already to be possesed). If hero is killed the gap closes.

Streams of fire(Phoenix)- (4 streams of fire 30 damage and 4 each second for 5 seconds) every second.
Phoenix Pressence(Phoenix)(Aura) - +50% damage increase.
Flaming Spirits(Hero)(Aura) - +80% attack, +50% movement speed increase, but burning them 1% of maximum health every 2 seconds for total 15%
over the duration or until the hero dies.

Ultimate in action, some friendly units with both auras and Hero soul on Phoenix.

Here's my WIP.

It still requires lots of work, my girlfriend has been taking so much time lately, I haven't had much time to work on these spell before yesterday. However yesterday and today, I have made some good progress.

The hero builds a Tesla Coil to fry his enemies. The tesla coil shoots an amount of lightning bolts equal to the ability level of the hero. Each tesla has limited energy that gets drained when shooting bolts.

The hero can have a maximum of three teslas at any given time. When building fourth, the oldest tesla will get demolished.

The hero rises in the air with the aid of his jetpack. Burning fumes will cause horrible pain to anyone under the hero setting them on fire.

Lasts 6-8 seconds, drains mana, can be terminated earlier. Increased moving speed, unable to attack or cast spells while in the air.

When clicked on a unit, object or on unpassable terrain, the hero will be grounded.

Clockwerk goblings are spawned from time to time to help the hero in battle. The hero can have an amount of goblins equal to his ability level. Passive ability.

When the ability is activated, the hero becomes unable to move. After he has clicked three times on the ground, a trap is summoned in the shape of a triangle, based on the points he clicked.

Laser beams travel through the triangle damaging all enemies that are hit.

Clockwerk goblins are spawned at the corners of the triangle, and at the end of the spell they explode causing AoE damage.

With this hero I mainly wanted to try to do something different.

I'm quite happy with these abilites, especially the triangle thingy but anything is still subject to change. Abilities may be drastically changed or replaced.

Lot's of work to do, code optimization, tooltips, icons, getting rid of bugs, creating effects, making abilities support multiple levels, getting rid of hard-coded values, better test map and so on. I don't know if there's enough time for all that :)

Thanks, it tooks me some time to create it since I'm used to working with locations, now went with points only.

With a bit of pen and paper, I was able to come up with the needed calculations for stretching the moving lightnings so they move along the sides of the triangle. It was also a fun task to scale the speed of the lightnings, so that all of them arrive at the end at the same time, and the end -and beginning points arrive at the corners of the triangle at the same time also, all of this regardless of how long the sides of the triangle are.

Some things I noticed with some of these submissions:

@cool_is_i
Keylogger and Hack both leak.
Use this in hack so you can greatly reduce the amount of lines:
  • (Random integer number between 1 and 100) Less than or equal to (Level of Hack for (Attacked unit))
No need for those IF/THEN/ELSEs.
You may have some MUI issues.

@Vakama_Lynx
Combine those Tidal Blessing 2&3. That trigger should be turned on/off when needed.

@Kala
Frost Arrows maybe too similar to the spell that's already in WC3? It does fit the hero though.
Crystal Arrow is not MUI.

NearbyHermit, Tome of Fire will get you disqualified. It contains 4 extra abilities. You are supposed to only have 4 abilities, not 8. I know they theoritically belong to one ability, but still, it doesn't follow the rules.

Hmm, those are not Hero spells, just unit spells.

For example ,if your hero summons an unit and that unit has a set of spells ,in essence it would be the same thing as Tome Of Fire.

But still, Xiliger may have the final word !


And, any impressions, commenting on the hero/hero idea ?

Replaced 1 ability. New ability - Spirit worms.

Some worms dies fast, some later but few survives in those bodies burning them inside out allowing them to enter this realm in form of a spider and survive for 30 seconds. All units around hero are turned hostile and some random unit from those hostiles will spawn 2 burning spiders if that unit is not killed before 10 seconds ends. After 10 seconds worms leave other bodies reverting them back.
90 mana, 30 sec cooldown
Level 1 - 1 unit will turn into 2 spiders
Level 2 - 2 units will turn into 2 spiders each(total 4 spiders)
Level 3 - 3 units will turn into 2 spiders each(total 6 spiders)

The spiders have the soundset of Sorceress. You might wanto to change that.
What is more, the ultimate should check if your hero is alive to remove the flying dragon, once he dies.

1.Power Jump
Jumps to a target location, damaging all air units on heroes path. Also deal some damage to all ground enemies on landing and spins some distation, damaging nearby ground units. Can not jump on less than 500 range.
Level 1 - distance up to 800, damage on landing - 100, dps on landing - 10.
Level 2 - distance up to 1000, damage on landing - 150, dps on landing - 13.
Level 3 - distance up to 1200, damage on landing - 200, dps on landing - 16.

cooldown - 14\11\8 seconds

2.Totem
Creates an immobile totem at target point. Totem increase all nearby ally units attack and move speed, damage and armor. Totoem can be destroyed. Duration - 25 seconds.
Level 1 - damage + 10%, armor + 2, attack and move speed +10\3%.
Level 2 - damage + 20%, armor + 4, attack and move speed +20\6%.
Level 3 - damage + 30%, armor + 6, attack and move speed +30\9%.
manacost - 100
cooldown - 60 seconds

3.Extrimal Surviving (Passive)
Rusher lower taken damage depend of how much HP he has. Each lost number HP lower taken damage (don't reduce magic damage) . Can not reduce more than 50% of taken damage.
Level 1 - reduce 1% of taken damage for each lost 40 HP.
Level 2 - reduce 1% of taken damage for each lost 30 HP.
Level 3 - reduce 1% of taken damage for each lost 20 HP.

4.Blade Madness (Ultimate)
Rusher creates massive chains made of dangeorus blades. After few seconds hero begin his rotation. Chains moves with hero, damaging all units it pass throught. Deals massive damage to units that stay close to hero and some less damage to units that stay far of Rusher. Lasts 10 seconds.
cooldown - 180 seconds

Since we need to post a WIP before our final entry, here's mine.

Ultimate and 2nd spell aren't done yet, and it's still missing a few testmap triggers, but should be enough.

So, what do you guys think? I might need to do some tweaking with the vaules, but I think it's pretty balanced atm.

Send me the map and I'll try to fix it up.

I just found out that this contest was taking place and I swore to myself I would participate in the next Hive Workshop contest, so I'm going to try to get a WIP up by later this evening and then hopefully a completed hero by later tonight.

I will be including quite an extensive list of external libraries (mostly my own work) such as Projectiles... let's see how this turns out :p
